Re: Update address list with wildcard DNS names

@pe1chl Thanks for replying. I hadn't thought about L7 inspection, but that may be an option for some of them. Thanks for the idea.

Update address list with wildcard DNS names

I have a few online services that I'd like to pull under control of QoS. Some of them say that their traffic can be identified by wildscard DNS entries like this: *.download.windowsupdate.com . I know in RoS you can put a non-wildscard DNS name in an address list and it will automatically do nslooku...

Re: RoS functions cannot log when called from a Netwatch script

actually that one ;-)
Since RouterOS v6.42 Netwatch is limited to read, write, test, reboot script policies.
To access global variables, "policy" right is needed

Haha . Yeah, that makes sense.

Re: RoS functions cannot log when called from a Netwatch script

netwatch doesn't have enough permissions to invoke a global script, see note on https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Tools/Netwatch I'm guessing you're referring to this line: Warning: Netwatch executes scripts as *sys user, so any defined global variable in netwatch script will not be readable by...

Re: RoS functions cannot log when called from a Netwatch script

One other thing I found is that if I create a /system script that has read, write, policy, test permissions in addition to the "Don't Require Permissions" checked, I could run that script from the Netwatch "Up" script and it logs like it should from the function. It will not log without the "Don't Requ...

RoS functions cannot log when called from a Netwatch script

I have the following function that I've added to the RoS environment: :global fTest do={ /log debug message="Message in fTest function. Param: $param" } I also have a Netwatch rule with the Up script defined as follows: :global fTest /log debug message="Message in Netwatch script." [$fTest param="Ne...

Re: Feature request - Multiple logs instances

I've been in the process of migrating from The Dude v4 to v6.42.2. I quickly realized that the logging capability is limited to send all syslog events to a single log file. I would like to be able to define multiple notifications of type 'log' and each of these show up as logging 'topics' in RouterO...

Re: CLOUD CORE ROUTER

I'm having stability issues with my CCR (CCR1016-12G) after upgrading from ROS 6.5 to 6.10 and also 6.11. The CCR will run for a few days (as little as 2 days and as long as 7 days) before it loses connectivity. I can't ping or access via Winbox. Sometimes the touchscreen and serial console are unre...

Re: Netinstall Error: Bad Client Address

I think I finally figured out how to use Netinstall. There were a couple of things that were preventing Netinstall from working. First, the MikroTik Wiki is incorrect in saying that the Client IP Address needs to be in CIDR notation (ie. 192.168.88.1/24). You only need to put the IP address in the C...

Re: Netinstall Error: Bad Client Address

I have the same problem when I try to use the netinstall and set the IP address using CIDR nnotation like the Mikrotik wiki says to do. I also can't seem to get Netinstall to work on any devices (I've even tried it on known working MikroTik devices). I must be doing something wrong. Any direction wo...

Is the 751U-2HnD Gigabit ethernet capable?

All the marketing material says this device is only 10/100Mbit, so one would assume it is just that speed. However, when I opened the User Guide ( http://routerboard.com/pdf/357/rb751U-2HnD-ug.pdf ), on page 7 under "Connector Index" section it says "RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet 100Base-T ports, Ether1 acc...

RouterOS broadcasting an old SSID along with the new SSID

A couple of months back I changed the SSID on my MikroTik (Routerboard 433AH with an R52H). However, I noticed on my laptop that I could now see both SSIDs available. The new one had a strong signal and the old one had a rather weak signal. I thought that this was just a freak thing because I had pr...

Re: WDS help needed with RB433 and 2xLinksys(dd-wrt)

I am trying to do something similar. I have a RB433 and a Linksys WRT54G with DD-WRT installed. How would I set up a WDS link between the two where the MikroTik is the "client" and the Linksys is the "host"? If possible, it would be really helpful to know what configuration to use on DD-WRT as well....

Re: How do I get non-VLAN tagged packets to go to a VLAN port?

From what I can tell, the physical wireless card (wlan1) and the virtual AP (coming off of the wlan1) shows up as their own interfaces. The only relevant thing the virtual AP and the physical card (wlan1) have in common is that they have to use the same frequency. Therefore, bridging the physical ca...

When I closed iStumbler, my pings normalized. jwcn, when you say -23 is too loud, are you saying that I am too close or that I'm overdriving my R52 somehow? Also, what is a good signal strength? T...
