Router Upgrade causes network lockup

Wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this. We have a CCR1072 core router that links to several other CCR routers (1016, 1036, 1072). The router runs both BGP and OSPF and links our AS to the internal network. We decided to embark on a routine upgrade since it had net been done for close...

Re: the dude- I cant add any pakage to the file

Solved: I managed to work around the problem by creating a folder structure on my local PC e.g. /dude/files/[filename}
Then drag the entire file structure to Winbox. This added the package in the correct place and it appears in Dude monitor under Packages.

RoMON Feature request

The RoMON system works well, but is is a concern that any valid user account including those with Read access can access the RoMON system. It would be great if RoMON could be added as a right in User Groups so that it can be restricted on a policy basis.

I really think that we all should change the former thinking in my opinion, because today we have 36 cpu cores and not only one or two cores! Am I right with this? You are probably accessing the internet through a tunneled connection (e.g. PPtP tunneled over PPPoE to deliver public IP's) and that creates problems with MTU/MSS when using another PPPoE connection inside your network

The other advantage of loopback (especially in MPLS setup) is that the loopback address will not go down if one of the interfaces is disconnected (as might happen with an IP on a WLAN). It also helps with keeping Source IP consistent when using it in RADIUS or anywhere else that you specify source IP.

if your PC router is a User Manager radius server and the Hotspot make sure you specify an outgoing interface on your masquerade rule, otherwise the loopback address wont be presented to the User Manager and it will cause errors.

You will need to enable rstp on the bridges of all 3 units to avoid bridging loops and broadcast storms (which is probably what is causing the bad response times). You need to install / enable the rstp-bridge test package and then set it up in rstp settings under your bridge.[/img]

Compare 2 truth values

I am trying to write an IF-THEN statement to compare 2 values which are either tru or false. The statement is of the form: IF (condition = true AND condition = true) THEN do action An example I tried is : :if ([/ping 10.0.0.254 count=1] & [/ping 10.0.0.253 count=1] = 1) do {:put "Both Gateways reach...

Could not determine local IP address

I have setup user manager and after working thorugh the forum entries I have managed to get the user authenticating, but immediately afterwards the user disconnects with an error. In the Mikrotik logs I get an error stating"could not detect local IP address" eg: 16:25:30 pppoe, ppp, info <pppoe-0>: wa...

you are connecting to the router on 3389? That is usually reserved for Remote Desktop Protocol on Windows systems.

You have to match p2p to something so that the router can distinguish, even if it goes out the default route. It is easy to match p2p and then assign to default route and then assume all other traffic that is not p2p must go through alternate route. It would not be easy to do the other way around

in order to do this this you first have to match all-p2p and then match the rest of the traffic with your routing marks. Then you need a routing table for the p2p traffic. you can then direct p2p along the alternate route and keep normal traffic on the default route. Your example matches all traffic...

I am not sure that I follow. My understanding is that address lists are used to group IP addresses together for firewall or packet processing of some kind. Port knocking is sending a certain sequence of port "knocks" using a portknocking client to the firewall (almost like a password) that will temp...

How many routers are between the downloaders and your masqueraded gateway? The normal solution would be policy routing, but it depends on your setup as to how you would identify the users.

The MAC address is hard coded into the LAN card. Sometimes the card drivers will include a utility to change MAC address but not always.

Can you give me more detail please. What network are you trying to route to? Was it working before the Hotspot setup? What does your routing table look like? Does the target network have a route back to you?

Add the 2 mb gateway in twice e.g

0.0.0.0/0 x.x.x.x
0.0.0.0/0 x.x.x.x
0.0.0.0/0 y.y.y.y

where x.x.x.x is the 2 Mb and y.y.y.y is the 1 meg

This will create an approximate 33 / 66 load balance split

Hope this helps!

You can only do this with WDS but then you need to use the same system throughout your network. I.e. MT required as base station and repeater

As far as I know this only works if your ISP supports multilink and usually uses 2 pppoe connections to bond together. I dont think MT supports this config. It usually requires special hardware. Check out the Planet XRT 402 and XRT 204 for some cheap options

I set it up exactly as in the how-to. (I am very new to Microtik)
