Re: RouterOS 3.0 VPDN?

This is a feature which would be extremely useful, I currently have to resort to using cisco devices to accomplish this which is a shame, as they are much more expensive and use more power too.

What does /mpls ldp set distribute-for-default-route=yes do?

Hi Guys, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me understand what /mpls ldp set distribute-for-default-route=yes does. It seems to add an entry in the MPLS forwarding table for the default route... What I'm really interested in is which routers should have this option enabled, just the edges of th...

Re: Does this look like an attempt to hack into my router?

When you have a machine with SSH open to the world you should expect this to happen frequently. It's best to firewall SSH (port 22) off so that it is only accessible from your management network.

uRPF on routerOS

Does anyone know whether routerOS support unicast reverse path forwarding? I'm particularly interested in implementing it on point to point interfaces, such as PPPoE.
I know linux supports uRPF, so if it's not there in routerOS I'll put in a feature request for it.
Thanks.

Re: Problem in switching from cisco to MT as PPPoE server!

Normis, The way that cisco implements this is by replying to all PADI packets, with a PADO using the same service-name the client requested as described, so while it is true that it is up to the client to select which AC to connect to, routerOS could respond to all service-names if there was an opti...

Re: Problem in switching from cisco to MT as PPPoE server!

I'm not aware of a setting which tells your PPPoE server to ignore the service-name.
Your best bet would be to email support@mikrotik.com and ask if they can help.

Re: Low Throughput - Why doesn't bandwidth get through?

A few clients modulating at low rates will kill performance for everyone else on the AP, check your registration tables to see what modulation your clients are connected at. Also, lots of small packets (eg. VOIP rtp traffic) will degrade performance.

Broken VPLS/Bridge in 3.25

Hi guys, I have noticed an intermittent problem with VPLS interfaces as member ports in bridges in 3.25 (unfortunately I didn't grab a supout.rif before fixing the issues). For a while it works fine... traffic is passed and the bridge shows the interface as designated port in the bridge. What happen...

If you use WDS on the wireless segment, you can run VLANs over it in order to keep the traffic separate.

Re: Running dynamic WDS to all clients - any caveats?

Thanks for the reply.
I do intend to use PPPoE within the VLAN, but I need to be able to separate the management traffic from the customer Internet traffic, so I need to be able to run vlans to the CPE.

Re: Running dynamic WDS to all clients - any caveats?

OK, I'm going to bump this as I have a bit more info. I am running VLANs over the WDS (which is the whole reason for using WDS). When traffic with a VLAN tag is sent FROM a WDS client (nanostation loco at the moment), I see the traffic going to EVERY OTHER WDS client on the same wireless interface. ...

Configure your PPPoE access concentrator to query freeradius for P...

Running dynamic WDS to all clients - any caveats?

Hi, I'm currently lab testing a wireless network topology where I have an RB433AH running ros 3.22 wireless-test with R52 wireless cards, with ubiquiti clients (combination of nanostation loco and bullets). The AP has dynamic WDS enabled, and clients are set to station WDS mode. The bridge which the...

Auto-negotiate mismatch causes reboot on RB1000 - 3.20

I had an issue where an RB1000 was set to auto-negotiate, and the cisco 2950 it was plugged into had the port hard-set to 100/Full. The RB1000 would continually reboot, until I hard-set it to 100/Full, and when it came back up, the log would say rebooted due to a kernel error. I realise that this wa...

Re: virual client

The radios can't be on two frequencies at the same time, so even _if_ mikrotik developed a way to connect to two APs at the same time, the two APs would need to be on the same frequency, and interference would be a real problem.

I have tried it, we have a pool of 19 routerOS routers running on wrap boards doing exactly this.
The load seems to get fairly evenly distributed. Identical hardware is pretty important.

On the PPPoE server, do you have remote address set? local address can be left blank, and should still work.
Remote address is generally set to be a pool.

Re: Clustering RouterOS PPPoE Servers

You can do something to this effect by using identical hardware to create two or more mikrotik routers. Re: Feature Request - LAC/LNS functionality

This would definitely be a useful feature, it would allow us to replace some cisco 1811s with mikrotik routers. We currently use the 1811s to terminate the PPPoE sessions via l2tp on a cisco 7200VXR in our core.
