Re: Extending The Dude using WMI - a short tutorial

Now. Over to the Dude to create a new Probe called Citrix Active sessions: Image4.jpg This simply calls the .EXE we created above, passing in the name of the device to which the probe has been applied (in my case a Citrix server). Apply this probe to your Citrix server and you’re done. I now have a ...

Extending The Dude using WMI - a short tutorial

A short tutorial on extending the Dude using WMI. We run a Citrix farm for publishing certain applications to our users. We used to run Citrix MetaFrame XP, which made quite a lot of information available via SNMP. One of the metrics we quite liked as a measure of how busy each server was and wheth...

Re: Probe Thread

We run a couple of SQL Servers, and I found it useful to track the amount of memory that the SQLserver process was consuming - in this case I was looking for sqlsrvr.exe in the list of running processes, so to look for and plot the memory consumption for other processes, simply change "sqlservr.exe"...

Re: Probe Thread

I think this is about dude comparing values; I guess that in the "receive" textbox I should write an regex expression instead of just a simple value... Hmmm, unfortunately I don't think I am going to be able to help much more. My HTTP probes don't contain regular expressions in the Receive box, jus...

Re: Probe Thread

Your probe looks correct (apart from the extra space after the 1.1). I am using very similar probes to check our web sites are working by looking for the string returned by the web server. I am using Dude 3.6 rather than 4.3 - I don't know whether the 4.3 behaviour is different. Some other things to...

Re: Probe Thread

A Function and a Probe to monitor the status of an array of disks in an HP Storageworks server. The problem is that a single oid will return an array of values (one for each disk), which are simply a text string. So you have to check each returned string for each element of the array looking to see ...

Re: the dude sms notification

Sorry for not responding, I didn't tick the box that says "Notify me when a reply is posted"!

I have just posted the source code for my VB app as a new topic.

SMS Sender Source Code.

Hi, this is a VERY CRUDE VB6 program, which I use to send SMS messages from the Dude. It consists of two parts: 1) DudeLogger.exe 2) SMS Send Message Dude Logger is a very simple VB program, which takes anything passed to it on the command line, and writes it out as a simple text file. There may be ...

Hi,

Sorry, I didn't get the request to post the source code for my SMS Sender, so I will try and do this.

Look out for a new thread.

Re: False Notifications

Update:

I noticed that this behaviour doesn't happen with the Dude client that runs on the server, only the Dude client running on my (and other peoples') PCs.

So I uninstalled and re-installed the Dude on my local PC, and all now appears to be fine.

Very odd behaviour!

False Notifications

After 2 years of trouble-free operation, I've just run into problems with the Dude notifications. I noticed that most, if not all, of the devices I am monitoring have extra notifications ticked (see screenshot). This is the 'notifications' screen for the 'ping' service for a particular device. Dude ...

Re: the dude sms notification

What I did was to write a very simple APP in VB, which takes an alert from The Dude, and then sends this on to the SMS gateway. That way I could control the SMS gateway using a language I understood (VB6). In The Dude I created a new Notification called "SMS Send" of type "Execute on Server" In the ...

Re: The problem with e-mail notification

Just an idea: Have you tried opening the backup file and looking at the notifications and SMTP configuration sections to make sure there is no corruption? The backup files are XML, so will open in a web browser. The interesting sections seem to be: - <ServerConfiguration> and - <Notification> You co...

Re: How to use Agents?

Add the agent under settings->agents I have a dude agent running on a machine on a different subnet, and have just added a rule that enables the 'Parent' dude server to reach the 'agent' dude server on port 2210, give it a name (Eg. RemoteDudeAgent) You add all remote devices to the 'Parent' dude se...

Re: Uptime Probe

The Ping function itself returns exactly the opposite of what you want (-1 if Ping Fails), so to graph the System Down Times you would create a probe with the following elements: ================ name: Is Up Type: Function Agent: default Available: not(ping(device_property("FirstAddress"))) Error: "...

Re: GSM Modem SMS Alert

I have the Dude sending me SMS alerts via a conventional dial-up modem (US Robotics USB modem). I did two things: 1: Write a simple VB app which takes the alert command line and saves it as a text file 2: Write a separate app that looks for these text files and sends them as an SMS message. I did it...

Anybody else experiencing this issues?
Yes! I just upgraded to 3.2 today, and didn't notice that the CC had disappeared from the email notifications until I read your post.

This is really annoying, as now I am the only person receiving alerts on network equipment failures!
