what is the noise level? check the SN ratio at the AP. you may have a hidden node problem, you would need to set the RTS on each client to 512 or 256 to help avoid this.

not a problem, just put in some static simple queue at the top of the list for you special IPs, I do this for my mail server so people can send faster than their upload speed allows - queues are matched sequentially like the firewall.

you do not need to give any IP to the MikroTik if you don't want to, it is just a Transparent Bridge not doing any routing.

Like jwnc said, you need to put Version 3 beta onto the MikroTik then used the psuedo-bridge available with v3, this will create a transparent bridge between ether1 and WLAN1. I do just that and it works

You are probably updating the remote site OK but just not seeing the changes, you could set the site to bypass the cache on the router or add http headers to the websites pages explicitly telling the router not to cache them. the SR2 does have good receive sensitivity but is it worth paying so much when the R52 is nearly as good... I guess it depends on your SNR and overall noise floor too. There is no point having a card that works down to -97dbm if the noise floor is at -90dbm!

Yes, I would imagine that you would need to mark thier connection using mangle and put them on an address list. first time they connect they are not on the list and get redirected, next time they go somewhere there are on the list so can bypass the redirect rule. This is just a guess!

I am very sure about the channels overlapping so much, this is one reason so many WISPs are moving to 802.11a (5GHz) where there is a little more space.

You may have a power problem too but it is easy to try different channels first.

If you have really not changed any configurations of the MikroTik or the other devices (like default gateways perhaps) then a simple reboot maybe all you need. Otherwise check your routing settings.

Each ethernet segment can be 100m, I've deployed 110m lengths but then had trouble getting PoE to work but not data. PoE standard also works to 100m but I think you will need to use 48v power supply

You may need to reduce the TX power, what RX level are your clients getting? What is the noise floor? - this is displayed on the Status tab

Also setting periodic-calibration=enabled may help...

Upgrade to 2.9.30, this might fix your problem. If all else fails you could reset the router config and start again as maybe you messed somthing up when you where setting it up.

you probably have an interference problem with the WLAN, you can only use 3 non-overlapping channels with 802.11b these are 1,6,11 make sure your cards are set to these.

I can understand that MT must run a sustainable a profitable company - I don't want freebies. I'm currently using OSPF on 6 routers without any problems though. So for me it works, but I've not really messed with the default config much.

Have you firewalled UDP? If you use Torch on the PPPoE interface and watch the traffic you may be able to see what is going on.

seems better using linux squid than using mikrotik built in proxy... just my opinion.

This depends on your situation and expirence. If for example you do not want to run another computer (expence or complexity) then the MikroTik builtin proxy is very useful and effective.

You need to add a DHCP client to the RB112 WLAN interface so that it may receive an IP address.

Depending on the type of network you have, you maybe better using PPPoE or the Hotspot or both. Using MAC addresses can be difficult.

I've been testing a link and found that the best signal strength I can get on 802.11g is when I set the card to 30.... The link gets a 8-9db increase using 30 rather than default and 1-2db more if I set it to 20

Yes we have this problem to. and to resolve it is to get a own DNS server.
The MT dns cant handel CNAME corectly and other problems.

I've had the same problem setting the RAM cache, no matter what I do only 2MB is used. One thing I have found is that by using a very fast slave drive for cache it has speeded it up quite a bit.

Your best option if you need to have maximum configuration would be to build a didicated squid proxy

In Winbox if you check "Port" then you will not see ICMP even though port is "any". This is different to 2.8 which allows you to tick the port option.

So now I am seeing ICMP

I'm wanting to test a subscribers PPPoE connection (with a public IP address) using torch as they are saying it will not work with IP Sec. When ever I look at the traffic on the connection it looks like ordinary web / POP3 traffic. What do I look for to see if the link is passing IP Sec?
