I should add that it is only the SR2 that I have this problem with, all other cards I have tried are fine including the SR5.

I've noticed this too with the SR2. It doesn't seem to be affected by the antenna or cabling type.

The only thing I've noticed is that it seems worse on the higher channels (about 10 and up) and the latency often improves when the transmit power is set to about 23dBm.

I've set up the User Manager 2.9.27 on a RB532 on the test bench to authenticate PPPoE clients. It works very well, with session information being logged normally so I can check the usage of each user. The funny part is the reporting feature in the user manager returns nothing at all. I have never had anything but trouble from AMD products.
Ditto, though I think this is due to a lack of any decent chipsets rather than the quality of the CPU itself. I have never had one glitch running MT on Intel stuff.

What type of wireless card are you using? I have noticed some types of card can only transmit from one antenna connector. Also check the pigtails as the Ufl connectors are very easy to accidentally damage.

I've had that happen on multi-homed Windoze boxes when accessing MT gear via a MAC address. Using the IP address instead fixes it.

I usually leave it blank.
I'd never tried that to be honest! :) If you fill it in and the client can't resolve the name it refuses to work.

Damn, I just ordered a bunch but haven't set them up yet! In hindsight I guess it pays to ask first! :)

Mind you they won't be used for anything over 3km and will be out in the sticks with no other networks around so hopefully will be OK.

I think what djape means is that running the card at its maximum power will not suit every installation; as with any type of gear you should tune your equipment settings so that it runs at its peak performance, not just leave everything as default. Regarding legal issues, MT cannot make your network...

Perhaps try killing the turbo on the receive interface? Turbo mode uses a much wider frequency range than standard mode so you are probably generating interference on your transmit interface. I'd try to keep both the transmit and receive cards configured as similar as possible.

I have a node using a RB532 with two SR5s on full power. I use the same 48v power over ethernet injector, great for long runs as you don't get as much voltage drop. This setup draws something very close to 16W so I am aware there isn't much room using those power supplies but it does seem to go fine.

Oops! :oops: I just performed a quick test on my rig, the CPU usage does go up a bit (I have edited my first post accordingly) but the actual data throughput remains the same as before. I assume this is what Atheros meant in their documentation as throughput is the part that really counts to the end...

I use WPA/AES on a P2P link with SR5s (Atheros) in RouterBOARD 532s. Enabling WPA added about 20% load on the CPU over leaving it unencrypted under heavy load.

What hardware are you running RouterOS on?

Why don't you grab a RouterBOARD 44; it's made by the same guys who brought you RouterOS so I doubt you could go wrong with that. :wink:

Not at all; RouterOS refers to the two antenna connectors on wireless cards as A and B. All he asked is which antenna needed to be enabled in RouterOS to use the MMCX connector, which is antenna B. This has nothing to do with the speed the card operates at.

Agreed, this is one reason why I like the SR cards with their MMCX connectors. They also have RP-SMA as an option but sadly I haven't any suppliers offering these yet.

This won't make any difference as the RB 500 series onboard regulator can only provide a maximum of about 11W to add-on cards, and the SR cards draw a little over 5W each under full load.

Works fine for me using latest firmware on the D-Link AP and having it set up in client mode, with Mikrotik set up as ap-bridge. This is good for several km as long as you have reasonable antennas.

Do note that I haven't tested it for long term reliability so your results may vary.

The CM9 draws just under 2W, so 4x 2W is 8W. The RB532 specs claim it draws 6W so that's a grand total of 14W maximum. I have also had this exact problem with VIA network cards before (seems to be a hardware issue - happened in all driver versions and OS types), though I haven't been able to find out any further information. The only solution is to connect it to a different type of NIC or switch.

I have been running two SR5s in a RB532 without problems, everything is rock stable. Do not use any more than two SR cards in RB500 boards as it will overload the onboard power regulator.
