yeah as i said this is not that practical to save the 200$ to buy a bigger antenna..it's probably the electricity usage for a couple of days.... but man if you get down to 1k you have a 300 fold increase in sensitivity i suppose you could stack up 20 or so peltier elements and burn 50kw to do it.......

first I am not getting lower than 70dB readings, although links are formed upto 100m. My main goal is to push the RSSI levels to below 70 (on laptop) and below 75 (on AP) i think you want to push them above -70dbm they are negative numbers, unless you some special RB Card that i don't know about you...

is there a way to free up some space on an RB433 (ROS 5beta6) whit 0bytes free without physical access? i installed dude on an rb433 with 5mb left over space over time the data source filled up all the remaining space.... i tried removing the data sources from the client app but it does not look lik...

why do wifi cards have two antenna ports??

what does the radio do with two antennas, does it add the signal on two antennas? or does it have two modem chains for each antenna? can i connect two directional and point them in different directions? or does it subtract the signal from each other in order to filter out near by interference?

but the recieve gain is +3dbi minus some losses. and since an antenna works as sender and reciver equal it has to give a gain sending unless my premis is wrong. the beem width has to decrease i think.

problem solved...
the thing wanted a dhcp lease but radius would not allow, because the mac address was not listed, so i set up a different dhcp server and then the device showed up in the arp list...

Every router comes with a copy of the license.
a copy of a license and being gpl compliant are two different things.
Honestly I do not think there is another product out there that compares to MikroikOS. Its amazing what it can all do.

et me guess... because routing core is proprietary, and RouterOS without routing is not RouterOS? =)

the chipset is atheros on both the mikrotik ap, and the dd-wrt repeater
it got a lot better without doing anything, signal/noise stayed the same less then 1% package drooped, bt ping time is still all over the place from 7ms >1000ms and avg 200ms

its more like 400 something Km but I'm somewhat sure that i have line of site. i am still investigating exactly where in in Costa Rica the link would terminate so i am not sure exactly how long. it might turn out to be 320km. does anyone know how to extract a altitude profile for a link from google ...

i am providing wifi in matiguas nicaragua this is a pretty poor place and quality of service is not so important, if a client has to wait 5 minutes for page to load thats fine
routeros has no timeouts (other than qos buckets)
so i guess changing the qos buckets time out would be the way to go but h

that would be nice but for various reasons this is not doable, my wireless clients are all throttled but i cant control some of the other users that are before the router. ideally i would get everyone to use a electric shock dog caller that translates bandwidth usage to pain. changing the time out s...

when bandwidth throw that gateway aproaches the limit latency jumps really high

ping router <1ms
ping gateway <1ms
ping everything behind the gateway >1000ms

routerboard drops packages when latency goes over 1500ms

hello,
i got a routerboard, a wireless client, and a gateway. when the gateways latency goes over 1500ms nothing get throw anymore. i can still ping from the the router throw winbox if i set the time out high.
is there a timeout setting i can change somewhere?

the file was getting corrupted during transfer, i transferred the file with winbox and had no problems at al, thank you.

ah i understand now thank you!! i want it transparent for the user while using the user settings eg bandwidth limit the login page still does not work quiet right so ill try to fix that first, it doest refresh and looks like it has something to do with dns the problem apeared after i upgrated to 3.2...

im using firefox

ok when i use open dns as dns servers it does not work, but if i use my gateway dns it works
would it be posible to use open dns and not use the gateways as dns servers? because i have 4 different gateway that are not mine and i cant change the dns on those routers

ip hotspot loggin page does not automatically redirect??

i have set up an hotspot on an rb433 running routeros 3.28. now when i connect a wireless client and go to http://google.com it brings up 192.168.30.1 (the hotspot ip) and displays the loggin page after entering the user name and clicking ok the browser just status says "waiting for 192.168.30....
