Hi everyone, I'm studying to take my exam MTCNA and MTCRE. The antennas are a physics thing, not a manufacturer thing. I would try a router that has bigger antennas, like for example the RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN. That would improve very much the signal strength.

Hello I installed RouterOS in a virtual machine in a Vmware ESXi. I have the ip 62.x.x.x for the virtual machine. The ISP tech says that i must configure this ip 62.x.x.x with subnet mask /32 and to give as a gateway the main ip of the server but ending with 1. i.e. My server's main ip is 178.x.x.10...

N21roadie, thanks for the response.

I think that the charging current must have a low level too. Let's assume a charging current of 0.00001A. I don't think it will charge a let's say 60Ah/hour battery even for 10 years.

How are things going with the AD-155B and the two 2*110Ah batteries?

Hello

If you are in a routed network, you can use static routes or maybe vpn (pptp for example).
I would prefer pptp, i.e. every device starts a pptp connection to the main router, so you can access the devices through their new client vpn ip.

No, the 493 has 10/100mbit ports, the 493G instead has gigabit ports.

You can always reset the config with

/system reset-configuration

And if when the system boots show a mesage to remove config, just remove it, and the router will be clean as a baby :)

You must put a 10.0.0.x ip in the rb450 in the eth5 interface, and also enable proxy-arp in it.

The ip is needed to make the router able to ping the switch, the proxy-arp is needed to make the roadwarrior able to ping the switch.

Tried with different Netinstall versions with no success in RB750 until i found MikroTik Router Installer 3.29 (the new way of naming Netinstall i think) and everything run smoothly as described in the previous posts, so you MUST use MikroTik Router Installer 3.29.

The chip, controller of the RB411 has burned out. This happens mostly after thunderstorms and faulty grounded ethernet cable.

It depends on what you are more familiar with. I prefer external Squid proxy in a Debian based host. In the other hand though, i have read very good scores for the new MikroTik proxy. You have to test, and test, before you start to be familiar with any of the types, and then choose the best for you....

The RB411 is a CPE oriented board. We are using them from some time now and got no problems. You say you changed the hardware completely and still it freezes. Are you sure? Do you changed also the NICs ?? Maybe one of them is causing the freezing.

for Case 1. Both -95 and -100 signal levels are unacceptable. You can also see that you have got highest signal in the longest link. Anyway those links are everything but OK. So you have to check: 1. Interference (maybe you are transmitting in a high crowded area so scan for lowest frequency usage f...

First of all.. Please write in english..!!! :) From what i understood (i know italian :) ), you have problems with your 5.x link in that AP. I don't think it has nothing to do with the fact that you are using also a 2.4 link in the same RB. Please post here the configuration so we can have some more...

I believe you are talking about versions 2.9.x ip webproxy is squid. ip proxy is the new proxy entirely created by MikroTik. I believe so much in Squid cause i use it in different Linux boxes, but in MikroTik it is a little bit unstable (ie, cache gets full and blocks the router, false error message...

Re: vedio conferencing using mikrotik

Your first step is to think of your network as a LAN (Local Network). Of course you can do both with your network. For the videoconferencing give Ekiga a try (http://www.gnomemeeting.org/). For the cameras you can just use the same software you use in the network the cameras are mounted. If they are...

One thing would be to find the local IP the packets are coming/going from/to... Then check if it's a real traffic (disconnect those machines). Then check the machines for any spyware, ad-aware etc.

From what i understand you want the hardware characteristics needed for a Mikrotik based router. But to say anything about them, it is needed that you make clear what role will it do on your network, the size of your network, the load (pps, mbps) etc.

That isn't a function of MikroTik but of the Motherboard of your PC. Most of ATX systems have it. You have to look in the BIOS settings and find something like: "..last power state".. That'll do the trick.

Best regards.

P.S. Use a licensed version pls

I see that the RBKAO has a 65mw card. You can safely change it with a R52H that is a 350mw card. With this change you'll have a noticeable increase in performance. Also important are the CPE. What CPE (routerboard and antenas) r u using?? and what is the distance you want to cover??

Re: how can I reset The OS

It depends..

If it is a routerboard you can access through console, change the booting interface and reinstall it.
If it is a PC based you have to reinstall it through CD or NetInstall...

Bothways you'll loose all the setup (so you'll have to restore it from a backup) hopping you have done it.
