Cannot ping with packet size > 32000. Is there a problem?

With some parts of my network I can send pings with packet sizes up to 65535. Other parts of my network won't let pings over ~32000 go through. As I increase the packet size, timeouts start occurring intermittently until 35000 at which point there is %100 packet loss. The internet seems fine over th...

Core Router was rebooted now cust IPSEC tunnels won't start

I had this issue a few months ago and never quite figured it out. We had a UPS fail and lost the main router for about 10 minutes. When we powered router back up all seemed fine except for 2 or 3 of our customers that have their own IPSEC tunnels that run out the internet. They would not come back u...

Sorry for the thread revival. Today I had to reboot my core router (bad UPS, moved to another one). Once the router came back up I was having trouble with customers that use IPSEC. Re: L2TP VPN to Data Cetner Failover options

OSPF is easy to deploy, fast failover and consider each complete link from the datacenter to the tower. Thanks for the reply. Is there anything special I have to do in the ospf settings? Would this be considered the "backbone"? I'd like to eventually add ospf to the rest of the network as well. Sho...

L2TP VPN to Data Cetner Failover options

I finally have my vpn setup and running smoothly. I have a RB1100 at a datacenter, they have routed public ip's and everything is working great. I currently use static routes to route the /24 from the datacenter, through the VPN and up to the tower. All customers have a public IP now and everyone is...

Re: Which Routerboard for DataCenter L2TP VPN Server

Alternatively if you want more power (and the ability to run virtual machines on your mikrotik) you could look at going for an x86 based router instead of a Routerboard. We use a lot of Routerboard gear, but normally only to back-up the higher powered x86 boxes we use. These include: PowerRouters D...

Re: Which Routerboard for DataCenter L2TP VPN Server

If you have an RB1100 you might as well use it. More RAM, faster processor.
That's what I'm thinking too. I do have a use for it coming up that's why I was asking if I could get away with something like the 450g. I hope I can get my hands on another one when I need it!

Which Routerboard for DataCenter L2TP VPN Server

I am getting ready to Colocate with a data center. The main purpose of this is to route the /24 of addresses from them back to my small(ish) wisp. The route will see a constant l2tp vpn connection and will pass at a max 50mbps (its less now but planning ahead). The router be passing 50mbps full dupl...

Are you suggesting I just do static routing? Yes I will probably do pppoe servers on each router but I have a few customers that need static public IP's Can i ask for what usage does your clients need a public Ip for? We offer it as an extra charge. One is a radio station up on one of the towers, t...

Re: New years resolution - Route my network

Yes, use OSPF. How many areas you want to use depends on the physical and logical topology of your network. All areas must connect to the backbone area 0. Keep things simple initially and do not use virtual links and sham links, and remember that OSPF OS expensive to converge but cheap to keep runn...

Any updates on this? I was thinking of doing the same thing. My ISP charges too much for additional IPs. A VPN link would be great to a Data Center that has unlimited IPs. Do people do this all the time?

Hope you get it working

I have been able to get this script running and so far its working good: :if ([/interface get [find name="ether1-CAM-NE"] running]=!true) do={:log warning "Possible Power Outage"} It checks the interface of the webcam at the tower site (its not plugged into the UPS) and lets me know when it is down....

Now a public IP is available and ready on ether5 for them via pppoe and all they have to do is plug in. Good Stuff
