Re: memory in 850gx2?

I have a similar reading as well on my 850gx2... Free memory: 446.9 Total memory: 469.8 It would be nice to know if this was a normal thing. I was also expecting to see 512MB in "total" memory. A few years back, I owned an RB450G that actually had a total memory reading of MORE than was specified. I...

Re: UPnP creating duplicate rules

I have a similar issue. When it was just one xbox360 on the network, upnp always created open NAT. Now that there is a 360 and an XBone, they're both getting moderate nat. UpNp enabled still. Would love to get a proper solution to this.

Does anyone know if it is possible to downgrade a recently purchased RB850GX2 to 5.26? I'd love to use this unit, but 6.X and winbox3beta are such buggy messes, I'd like to just use 5.26 on my setup. Couldn't you just specify those "manually"? Like: /ip dhcp-server network add address=192.168.0.100/32 dns-server=dns-for-this-IP What the script does is create static entries in dns for all dhcp leases to that they may be resolved by name easily. Re: uPnP and firewall... what to do?

So can it be said (or confirmed by Mikrotik) that a upnp nat rule does not require a firewall filter rule that accepts it?

For instance, if you have a firewall filter rule to drop all forward chain packets from the internet interface, the upnp nat rule will accept them regardless?

I use this method myself, and the accept rule is right above a "drop all" rule for the forward chain. All other accepts/drops are in the rules above it. Re: uPnP and firewall... what to do?

It is my understanding that if you add an accept rule between two and three like this (assuming your lan addresses are 192.168.1.0/24): chain=forward action=accept dst-address=192.168.1.0/24 It will allow all of the UPnP rules through. This logic is that anything that is destined for your router fro...

Thank you, fewi! Yes, you are correct inasmuch as UPnP creates dynamic NAT rules. I do think you're onto something with the second script line you wrote. BTW, a prime example of this is the Xbox360 vs. PS3. PS3 opens a upnp port in the NAT table, but when you shut the machine off it released the dhcp address and closes the port. The Xbox360 does not. It opens 3074UDP upon logging into LIVE and never closes it when turning the box off. To remove the p...

How about a "script" for turning UPnP off and on every night to clear it ?
A kill and restart script is what I had thought of at first, it seems to work really well on other open source platforms. There has to be some decent way to do this in RouterOS.

That won't work. It simply doesn't scale. The built in caching resolver is fine for small scale but isn't a DNS implementation that can handle a few thousand to tens of thousands of static records. It also doesn't scale when you try to do this in more than one router. Build a proper DNS server, imp...

It has been my experience that if you have multiple xboxs behind a firewall and with upnp enabled, each xbox will pick a port.

the first will pick 3074
the second will pick 6148

and so on. I've run 3 at a time.
