Re: Problem with IPTV on RB850Gx2

Did anyone ever revisit or verify this with newer versions?
I had some issues with reordering with 6.34(if I'm not mistaken) which could be worked around by disabling one core in RouterBoot.
Didn't retry this later on, as I then shelved the RB850Gx2.

Re: CRS125-24G Routing questions

Thanks for the info mrz. Hardware routing recently got very affordable with devices in the 100-200$ range, but only with 3 port devices, so I hoped MT would come up with something similar.

CRS125-24G Routing questions

Hi MT,

does the CRS support any form of hardware based routing for IPv4/IPv6? Or is everything which isn't L2 switching handled by the ROS software as we are used to from the existing boards.

Cheers,

you should consider how many steps can be done when ICMP echo travels from one guest to another. And if packet is not processed in one time-slice (it arrives at the end) how long it can be delayed. Fair enough, then they don't use tun/tap. As you say, getting <10ms latency with that would be impossible with HZ_100. But metarouter still needs to run inside a thread at least. That means it needs to sleep and can 'wake up' at 100Hz at most. If you send it icmp request just before it wakes up, th...

AFAIK since a lot of stuff is happening in OS all the time, and guest and host has to do these things all the time, so each gets time-slice when to do stuff. Re: RB2011 + Metarouter

When Metarouter on this new RB with a new generation CPU also acts weird, then maybe not everything is lost, because this more sound like a software issue then.
Or, what would be very unsatisfying, the powersupply or other hardware on this board is also insufficient for higher loads.

All of them are real interfaces! When I say "real interface" I usually talk about a dedicated MAC+PHY combination or NIC. Not necessarily the logical representation inside ROS. CPU has 1GBit channel to the 100Mbit interfaces, and one 1Gbit channel to the switch chip. So the CPU itself has...

the difference is - hardware watchdog will reboot device always, while software watchdog can lock up,.That is why all recent product series use hardware watchdog.
If I get this correct, then Nathans RB1100AH shouldn't have locked up completely, as he had the watchdog enabled, right?

How could it be a SoC issue? It's the exact same part/silicon that's on the 433AH.
Yes the same part, but not the same setup regarding connections to a switch chip and amount of RAM etc.

Re: RouterOS v5.9 released

And if it is I'll guess I have to live with it and plan to move to another platform over time. The very last thing on my list!
As if there were any comparable alternative...

Re: RB450G + openwrt Metarouter strange problem

@janis:
What he meant where LE architectures in general, not necessarily MIPS-LE, I guess.
And yes, this could have an influence but at a point where it's already to late out of a developers perspective.

@xdemon:
Crashes may occur anywhere between 1minute to nearly 1day. The rate increases as you do more work inside the MR.

Re: RB450G + openwrt Metarouter strange problem

I can only repeat and clarify what I said in earlier posts: The whole MIPSBE series should be considered unusable in combination with Metarouter. Especially with the information available from MT and the fact that they aren't capable of fixing this problem in such a long time. @MT: This is not inten...

Re: RB450G + openwrt Metarouter strange problem

I guess you only could try yourself, there is extremely less feedback on Metarouters altogether. And, without wanting to bash MT, there seems to be no clear understanding of the cause on MIPSBE, so every MIPSBE based board should be viewed as affected. Even a small software update might tip those bo...

Re: Metarouter stability on RB800, RB1100, RB1100AH

I'm not sure how to judge the fact, that no community members posted any reply about real world Metarouter usage.

Re: VmWare HW config for MK ROS

also, AFAIK vmware tools are required for better monitoring of the guest system, not about optimizing interfaces and stuff, but i can be mistaken. That's correct, in the case of Windows, and sone Linuxes the VMware Tools add support for the VMXNET3 interface, which is paravirtualized and much faste...

Re: RB450G + openwrt Metarouter strange problem

That is thanks to new board that has similar structure as RB450G where debug mode or MetaROUTER can be monitored (it cannot be done or RB450G).
Your devs forgot to include the AR7116 in the JTAG scan chain on the RB450G? ;)

Re: RB450G + openwrt Metarouter strange problem

Ok, my new Metarouter test crashed after about 3 hours. Short sketch of the config: 1 Metarouter, 32MB RAM&Disk 2 Virtual Interfaces, one dynamic as bridge port, one static to ether2. Pinging from Metarouter to host. Pinging from another System connected at ether2 to Metarouter. Only things conf...

Re: RB450G + openwrt Metarouter strange problem

Conclusion by now: As both barkas and QpoX both have crashes regardless the switch switch-all-ports setting, I think we can rule that out. Significant difference between my setup and barkas setup is, that my Metarouter does nothing more than just pinging over one interface, and barkas does full MPLS...
