Re: RB1100 Ether ports flapping

Probably this answer is a bit late but this issue can be caused by the faulty Atheros 8316 switch IC which causes router freezes on RB450G/493G boards? This IC dies under heavy load and only resetting the chip or the board itself solves the problem.

Firewall and queue optimization

Dear Community, I have an RB2011UAS-2HnD router used as my home router. Its setup contains many firewall filter and magle rules, and a queue tree setup. The router is connected to the Internet via PPPoE on e10-wan (ether10). The WAN connection speed is 44Mbit download and 22Mbit upload. There is a N...

Re: RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN Questions Topic

I have tested the switch (normal usage over a few months long) and it seems fine to me. No stability or speed issues. I can easily run iperf going at a full gigabit a second for say 30 minutes without a problem. The same with copying 120GB from one port to the other using CIFS. Further on the wirel...

Re: RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN Questions Topic

Hi, My question is about this board that do somebody tested the switches utilizing the maximum bandwidth? Do the new Atheros chips solve the issue present on the older models (mine is RB450G) equipped with Atheros 8316 switch IC? (Switch hangs when you send huge amount of data through the switch wit...

Re: v6.0beta3 released!

We are not aware of any freezing, unless you mean issues with Metarouter and these chips. If you have encountered any such issues, contact support with more info. I did it without any success. I always got the answer that the issue cannot be reproduced. I wrote my problem on many forums and that re...

Re: hardware issues with rb4xx

In addition, many RBs that have the Atheros 8316 switch (like RB450G, RB493G etc.) suffer from ethernet interface failures under heavy load that makes these boards more unreliable. And definitely this issue cannot be fixed by software updates.

Re: v6.0beta3 released!

Are there any improvements about the Atheros 8316 switch IC? I mean the switch freeze issue on some gigabit RBs (RB435G, RB493G, RB450G).

Re: Rb435G Network Interfaces Simple Solution

Did someone try the latest 6.0beta3 ROS on an RB435G/RB450G? Is the switch chip still freezes under heavy load? The changelog indicates that there is a new kernel in that release and drivers were updated.

Edit: the issue still exists.

Re: Rb435G Network Interfaces Simple Solution

RB450G has the problem, too. Seems to be related to the Atheros 8316. After 2 minutes of full load (Gbit traffic between 2 ports) the switch stops working.

Re: Will there be an RB451G?

if you have RB450G still in place, you can try by reducing cpu speed to 400MHz that will be the same as RB7501G regarding speed.
I just measured it and at about 60 Mbps the CPU load was 100% and about the half of this usage was queuing so this CPU speed is simply not enough for such bandwidth. :(

Re: Will there be an RB451G?

we have not tested exactly that, but you can try. After all it has around 370Mbps throughput with firewall/conntrack and routing

swtich is wirespeed.
And how much is the speed drop if I use queue trees (+many firewall mangle rules) for QoS purposes?

Re: Will there be an RB451G?

what about RB751G, however it has integrated radio. I saw that and it looks much weaker than RB450G (slower CPU, slower switch throughput) and I'm not sure if it can handle my 80 Mbps PPPoE WAN connection. In addition I have a few PCs connected with Gbit that put large amount of data through the ne...

Will there be an RB451G?

Hi, Recently I was looking for a replacement of my broken RB450G and trying to find a solution that has enough gigabit ethernet ports and a miniPCI slot for a WiFi add-on card. I found the RB493G which is a little bit expensive and the 9 ethernet ports are too much for a small network (like mine). I...

Re: Downlink and uplink traffic shaping

I tried to make a configuration based on your solution using a pfifo and a different method for packet marking and it seems to be working. I had to adjust the pfifo size to 10000 to let the router handle a larger traffic.

Re: Downlink and uplink traffic shaping

@Oldman: i have tried your solution but it's still not working as expected. When p2p is running at maximum speed, HTTP download is very slow. I can see the correct speed values in the queue tree so packet marking is OK.

Re: Is good to choose compact flash as storage for routeros?

In my opinion there is no need to worry about wearing out the flash. On most RouterBoards the RouterOS is stored in the on-board NAND flash and working without a problem.

Re: RB450G + ROS 5.14 + microSD = strange problem

I found another symptom. If I create an SMB share in the root of the microSD and copy files to it, these files are not deleted after rebooting the router, but if I create a sub-folder it is deleted after a reboot including all its contents. So probably there is a problem with folder handling. The si...

RB450G + ROS 5.14 + microSD = strange problem

Dear RouterOS community, I have a big problem with my RouterBoard since I have update from RouterOS 5.7 to 5.13. I noticed if I copy some files to the microSD card (1 GB Kingston) via SMB, after a reboot, all copied files are gone. If I do the same via FTP, after the reboot the files can be found on...

I can reproduce this issue too. This is the console 100% CPU usage issue too. In such case you can still log in using WinBox and manage router from there. (reboot) 5.1 on a 750G Connect via ssh/telnet and type "interface ethernet switch ?" and ALL(!) ssh/telnet sessions will freeze instantly. No ne...
