Ubiquiti vs Mikrotik

Hi I have been working with RBs for about two years now. Mainly as APs, routers and hotspot devices, and up till now, one point to point SXT link. For the past year and a half I have heard various people telling me that Ubiquiti is better suited wireless needs while Mikrotik is excellent at what it ...

outdoor dual band sector antenna

Hi A customer needs wifi access on his beach (40m wide by 100m deep) He is about to order a series of wireless tactile pads for the staff, for order taking, that run on 5GHz I think that there is still a considerable amount of customer devices that work solely on 2.4GHz Therefore I'm tempted to use ...

Re: 751G-2HnD keeps locking up

Thanks for your response
My apologies for having left this question open

In fact Mikrotik support helped me figure this one out: it was the web proxy that was causing the dysfunction. Once this option was disabled the router stopped freezing up.

RouterOS & Squid (RB450)

Hi I have a client who is situated too far way from the closest ADSL DSLAM. There isn't any 3G or 4G coverage either. His ADSL bandwidth is: 1.1Mbps/0.6Mbps. I suggested we take the satellite route and they are now using NordNet/TooWay (Orange) 12Mbps/4Mbps. Unfortunately the latency and frequent li...

751G-2HnD keeps locking up

Hi I recovered a 751G-2HnD from a customer's site, and replaced it with a simpler RB750G because the client kept complaining about the RB locking up. A reboot of the RB was his only solution. I have installed this 751G-2HnD in my office and use it to handle my local network traffic, and queues, and ...

Re: beeping RB433

The beep was emanating from a stopwatch that had been placed close by to the RB433
An hourly chime was active on the stopwatch, which was 35 mins late on the hour !

Sorry for the confusion caused by this question

Re: IP plug and play

Thanks for your reply Discus

I should have mentioned that the Zyxel hotpot devices (g4100 or n4100)
for example, and others aswell I'm sure, can assign an IP address to a
customer whether he/she is in DHCP mode or not.

That is the behaviour I was trying to obtain from the RB

possible ?

Traffic shaping - prioritizing the essentials

Hi This past week I have been working on a bandwidth traffic shaper for one of my hotel clients. Situated at the end of an ADSL line all they have is 2MB/700K, so come summer the user complaints begin. They already have a Zyxel N4100 hotspot in place. I started off with a 450, which I soon replaced ...

IP plug and play

Hi

Is it possible to setup an RB device to act as DHCP server
and to pply IP plug and play distribution of addresses
i.e. even if the workstation is already equipped with a static
IP address, the server will 'allow' the workstation through ?
Or is is this solely a hotspot feature ?

thanks

Hi I setup a mangle rule to place a routing mark on all traffic emanating from a specific subnet e.g. 192.168.11.0/24.
