it need to dial out both adsl internet & l2tp from mikrotik and set the l2tp as default route

the isp gives a adsl account and a l2tp ( static ip )

if your mikrotik is connected to adsl with static ip then: 1) block all ports of your modem for safety except your mikrotik thats fully open 2) in mikrotik block all ports except what you need open ( winbox, telnet, etc...) 2) then open the vpn port for telnet in mikrotik with its ip ( port foward )...

use something nice like a R433UAH or RB600 for wireless if going outdoors, if indoors just use wireless card on x86
use a x86 pc for management control and for cable access & a x86 for proxy
extras are network auto switches,cable,power etc...

check your service ports , i had same problem

eg: web access to router/hotspot

10.5.50.1:8081
www.hotspot.com:8081

also check firewall access rules

My problems i havent reported cors most i sorted myself out, but for real try to sort them out eg: queue problems clash with new versions , not stable like in hotspot userman problems NB* pppoe usage limits dont work perfect like hotspot hotspot is the only thing that works smooth with queue & bandw...

im running a 4MB unshaped dsl line, but my isp has restrictions for example 1st & 2nd priority....meaning if im using torrent i get full speed unshaped but the rest on my network get 50% of the actual line speed thats why i want to set everything evenly..... my hotspot clients i just want to give in...

easy just setup basic network settings for you & dsl on lan1
setup hotspot or pppoe for the rest thats it

im running a standard dual core p4 E5200 cpu, 2gb ram ddr2 800, 250gb sata with two gb-lan cards ( input/output)

running pppoe server , firewall, queue, L7

runs smooth, got +/- 250 clients

i recommend full bandwith for your clients, limit your ethernet lan your clients are on eg:( 128k/128k) and create a basic queue for downloads of file types :

eg:

*.mp3
*.zip
*.rar
*.iso

what it is, is your clients will get full bandwith you set for them but drops when downloading
