Re: Stuck on 6.42.1 - cannot upgrade packages - can you help?

Segmentation faults - what? [SOLVED]

I am stuck on my RM3011, and cannot upgrade from the 6.42.1 firmware. Serial console notes 'segmentation faults' When I upgraded to the firmware, I had to do a netinstall as the router was inoperable after the update. Luckily, with a windows VM, I was able to do the install. I have tried several tim...

Re: Stuck on 6.42.1 - cannot upgrade packages - can you help?

Thank you for the reply. Yep, I downloaded the packages direct from the upgrade option on the main menu. Downloads a-okay and reboots, but does not change the version. Is something strange going on as I have two copies of ipv6 installed - the combined package, and the separate package? Can I get bac...

Stuck on 6.42.1 - cannot upgrade packages - can you help?

Hello everyone. Could you help me - my core router (RM3011) is stuck on 6.42.1 and I cannot upgrade it to the newest release. I download/reboot as per normal - the files go into the root folder a-okay. But on reboot the router does not update the firmware. I have confirmed I have no spare .npk in th...

Install and upgrade via packages menu option crashed my 3011. Anyone else have issues. Now in constant boot loop. Cannot launch kernel. Any recommended next steps ?

Re: IPv6 - Advertise router as DNS [SOLVED]

It the IPv6 address just in hex! Thanks Sob. Will experiment. Will identify if the prefix my ISP is giving me is dynamic. It would be great to have this implemented. Matt @null31: The idea is to not advertise servers from "/ip dns", because we want clients to use DNS cache on router. Optio...

Re: IPv6 - Advertise router as DNS [SOLVED]

Thank you Sob. This is great. Could you explain the value-0x20010..... entry. I had tried DHCPv6 but could not configure. I must have been confused between the advertise and DHCPv6 stateful/stateless. Could you let me know what this value means? I'm sure it will happen eventually. It already works w...

Re: RouterOS on APU2

I successfully installed Vmware ESXi and then installed the Cloud Hosted Router. Yes, this is not bare metal, but it does work. Used for experimentation - did not continue into production access.

IPv6 - Advertise router as DNS [SOLVED]

The Advertise DNS option on the IPv6 ND submenu currently broadcasts all IPv6 resolvers listed in the IP/DNS Server. This is unwanted behaviour - as IPv6 queries are not cached, and go direct to the IPv6 resolvers on the internet. The IP DNS Server is IPv6 capable and is a caching name server. Would...

First Gen Apple TV converted into Mikrotik Router?

I have an old, first generation, apple tv. Not really that useful anymore - but it has a 1Ghz Pentium, 256MB of RAM, Mini-PCIe slot and a hard drive. Was thinking this could be an excellent 5Ghz bridge when combined with a new Mikrotik PCI card. You can install linux on an apple tv - many hacks avai...

Re: 250GS or 450GL

Normis - thank you for your post - I have read many of them in the past and they have been very informative in helping me configure my new router and learn about Mikrotik. I agree - they are two different devices. But both can perform a switch function. My questions relates to this. So I assume that...

250GS or 750GL

Hello there. I am looking for a small smart switch. I was going to buy the 250GS for $79 NZD but I note that the new 750GL router is available for $99 NZD. Checking out the specifications, I can see that the 750GL has a better Atheros switch chip. It has a full RouterOS license, which I don't need, ...
