Re: Won't pass traffic over 1468 bytes

Hi Nathan - I need to say, I greatly appreciate your help - taking the time and the personal interest in my problem, and I do actually feel pretty guilty taking so long to get back to you. I struggled with this quite a bit, and got to where the reward of the separate VLAN's wasn't worth the amount o...

Re: Won't pass traffic over 1468 bytes

Thanks for the tips. The equipment is located 2.5 hours away from me - I was working remotely and knocked myself out of the radio and camera in question  but I'm driving up there in the morning so I'll be able to try more on-site. One thing I did notice - when I put the camera on the managemen...

Re: Won't pass traffic over 1468 bytes

I really appreciate the replies - if you do get a chance to look a little closer and have any more ideas, I'd be eternally grateful. I was initially doing the ping through windows, but I also have a debian box there sitting directly on the untagged management VLAN and I've done some testing with tha...

Re: Won't pass traffic over 1468 bytes

So - I've got to believe this is related to MTU, unless I'm totally missing something. When I ping different devices and specify packet size, anything over 1500 bytes doesn't make it (unless I ping the switch at the tower - it'll take almost anything I send to it)... I'm not choosing don't fragment,...

Re: Won't pass traffic over 1468 bytes

Gentlemen - I really am at a loss here, and would appreciate any help or even troubleshooting suggestions. Here's some additional info I've come up with, including a diagram of the whole setup: packetdropping.jpg In the attached image, you can get a basic gist of the network I'm dealing with here. I...

Won't pass traffic over 1468 bytes

Hey Gentlemen, I need some help here... I have a RB450G in place that has a couple VLAN's set up; Eth1 is gateway, Eth2-4 are essentially trunk ports to VLAN aware equipment, and Eth5 is bridged to my VLAN10 Trusted VLAN... this plugs into a dumb Netgear 5-port switch, and into a couple computers. W...

Re: NOT TO DO. Weird instalations?

In the attic were a series of these shelves holding up routers - with electricity piped to each one. Many had a kludge of external high-gain omni and directional antennas. Photo Oct 10, 11 52 50 AM.jpg Photo Oct 10, 11 54 20 AM.jpg Unfortunately, because they were routers, some were routing and/or h...

Re: NOT TO DO. Weird instalations?

Here's one I replaced not long ago... This yellow wire is the internet connection feeding an apartment complex - it went into the building, into a router, and the yellow wire is the primary connection going to a series of routers (not access points - routers) mounted throughout the ceiling. I didn't...

Re: Problem reaching other VLAN's from PPTP VPN Connection

Thanks for your help... file this under the "I'm a dumba$$" file. Without either setting my computer to send all traffic through the tunnel OR setting static routes, it's only going to use the VPN for the primary subnet. Fixing that allowed me to get to everything else as expected. With Windows, sen...

Re: PPTP with proxy arp

Hi - I don't mean to hijack another's thread, but I'm trying to do this exact same thing. For the new pptp subnet, I set the profile to use 192.168.104.1 as the local address, and set the remote to use the pool associated with 192.168.104.x range. I went into IP Addresses and added 192.168.104.1 to ...

Re: Problem reaching other VLAN's from PPTP VPN Connection

Thanks for the reply. I believe I already have arp-proxy enabled correctly; that was required to even access the local VLAN from the PPTP connection; however enabling it only fixed access to the same subnet I VPN in on - it's not letting me reach the other VLAN's/Subnets.

Any other ideas? Thx!

Problem reaching other VLAN's from PPTP VPN Connection

Hello all, I've been working on this for a few days and searched everything I can think of... I had this RB450G working pretty well in my lab, but when it came time to deploy it, I had to add in PPPoE and tweak a few settings. It's *almost* where it needs to be, but when I VPN in, I can only reach t...

Re: RB450G and VLANs

Well, the problem was on my end with the routing - I was working dual-homed and it was confusing my MacBook. Now that wireless and everything are working as intended via the multiple LAN's, I can plug into my office network for the WAN connection and finish working. I'm still really curious about th...

Re: RB450G and VLANs

Thank you for your help... The bridging does make sense - I just wasn't sure how much could be done in the switch chip vs. bridging. I've decided based on this to modify my approach slightly; Ports 2-4 will still be normal switch ports sitting on the management VLAN but with access to the other VLAN...

I had to do this today for the same reason... I couldn't get anything to happen with the reset button, but opening the case and shorting that pad from the link above did the trick for me.

RB450G and VLANs

Hey guys - I've got some prior experience with Mikrotik (this is my 3rd RB450G) but this time it's kinda kicking my rear and after searching all day, I need to ask for some tips on the right way to accomplish my goals while ensuring the best performance. I'd post my config but I reset it to defaults...

Re: How to login XBox 360's on hotel RouterOS setup

So, since you have no access to the system, and now way to make the xbox open the hotspot, then to be honest, the only workaround I can think of may be too much work for you - it's up to you... but it's to find some sort of device you can keep on hand that lets you spoof a mac address - you'd spoof ...

I have the same question... an apartment complex where we provide Wifi; getting copyright notices from the ISP, so need to block P2P/Torrent downloads.

Apartment Complex Installation

Hi All, I've been reading and reading but this should be my first post... I'm new to Mikrotik hardware - but so far, I'm very pleased with how much control we have with them - better than many I've paid a lot more money for. I've worked a lot with Netgear SOHO, and Cisco and HP enterprise equipment ...
