Did you get lucky with API and Visual Basic 6 ? I'd REALLY appreciate if someone could tell me how to connect using VB6 to RouterOS API... I don't mind paying for a component (something reasonable, please!) I program using VB since 1993, and I use VB 6 every day at job. I've developed an ERP form my...
I use the same user and password for all my routerboards, and have them saved with routerboard IP at my Winbox. I recently changed both, user and password, of all my RBs, and now I find myself changing one by one user and password at Winbox. Tried to export and then edit addresses.wbx, but can't be ...
I'm running a few Rb112 with RouterOS 2.9.51 that can't send user & password.
I need an SMTP server that needs no authentication, just filter by IP address.
Trying to use back up e-mail took me a while because I dind't know how to setup an e-mail server. Tried PostCast, but despite it worked at my PC, I couldn't make it work with RouterOS. Si I found http://www.softstack.com/freesmtp.html It's the easiest thing to setup an e-mail server on Windows, and ...
I wanted a script that mailed me the list of stations registering to each one of my APs, so if I needed to know where did a station last register to, I just had to search for it at gmail. There's a post telling how to attach a file with registration-table, but a gmail search wouldn't find stations n...
Did you make it work?
I've just installed PostCast and I can send e-mail properly from my PC, but can't make my RB493 send mails though it's ip and port are well configured....
OK, I like the idea of getting to the hotspot with fake addresses and asigning the c class addresses to DHCP on the hotspot side. Did it, but didn't work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Would you help me? I get a routed C class from my ISP, that part is working. I route everything to the WAN int...
I understand that if an AP is set in any given frequency, it transmits in it, but hears all frequencies (all the other channels)as well. So performance on AP could be improved by installing a notch filter to the radio, so it hears to the intended frequency, and nothing more. a) Is this assumption ri...
That's funny! I thought this thread would get lots of comments! There has to be MANY users with a star network: a central NOC transmitting at 5.8 to many repeaters retransmitting at 2.4 to a bunch of CPEs each... And most of them are heving trouble with interferences and low throughput issues that w...
The head-end has to be AP WDS, your wlan2 has to be station wds, your bridge could be rstp and include ports wlan1 and wlan2.
Besides, at head-end, AP WDS has to go in an RSTP bridge with wichever interface you get to the Internet.
That how it works for me!
This is a new thread from here http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=32784&p=161063#p161063 A WISP once told me that I could achieve 30 CPEs using 256Kbps each, at the same time . But so far, I haven't been able to... Constrains: All CPEs are the same model and brand. AP is RB433AH +...
Here you can see one of my nodes, it receives signal using 5.8 from our NOC, and transmits to CPE using 2.4 18 CPEs can't use that little bandwidth! Forum.jpg If I run a Mikrotik bandwidth test from a PC connected to a CPE connected to this node, running BWTServer at my NOC (connected by 5.8 to this...
Nuke, in our experience nothing changes if we replace an omni with 3 pannels... We've done the experience. Signal improves a little, but there's no significant bandwidth improvement at all. We are placing many nodes, so distance to clients is quite near. That way, omni antennas work pretty well. I w...
OK, thanks a lot for your comments! Let me tell you a few things we've tried. First, we wanted to know if clients with bad signal would drop overall perfomance of the AP. This turned to be false. Low signal on clients doesn't change the performance of other clients with good signal. We made a test b...
Sorry, I don't have the equipment to do that... all I can do is to show you Freq Usage...
It's under 1 per all frequencies, except:
5560 54,7
5640 10,4
5660 2,8
5680 3,3
5700 8,5
And those are all mine (all XR5, 90º pannels, and yes, there's one extra pannel pointing to a populated area)
If you are in the same subnet you're pinging, it won't work, as your're not going through the router!
It'll work when the router really works, that is from one subnet to other...
I usually open a telnet session from neighbours in a winbox session. First problem is that telnet opens and goes to the back, so you have to click on it to start using it. When using this telnet session, all text seems to write in the last line, no scrolling. So I change telnet window size, and re e...
Do those client flow through this router? They will pass if they see each other directly. How do you test pings? where do you point to? You're placing the rule in forward, not input... Do you have a bridge? if that's so, firewall won't work Is connection tracking enabled? Do OTHER firewall rule work?
I replaced RB532 with SR5, now I have 4 RB433AH each with 2 XR5 to 90º pannels (yes, they are redundant), more than 10 clients per radio, CM9 most of them. First RB433AH didn't work right, I had to power it off and forget about it. On the other 3 RBs, I've been having irregularities. Sometimes clien...
Of course you'll have a reply from 110! That's the only one that will reply!
Add a rule like the one for 110 for each IP you need working. Those are the ones that will reply!
Pice of cake...
We have a more than 200 clients WISP, that distributes 10 MBps of SDSL through a HotSpot to a 5.8 Mikrotik network of 20 nodes, each retransmitting in 2.4 to clients (all clients same model and brand) We can't get good throughput among each client and repeater. If we measure a client individually, i...
Hi kike! I answer in English so everybody can understand... I connecter Internet to a PC running IP-Cop on ether1, from ether2 of that PC I connected to ether1 on Mkt, and from that Mkt ether2 I connect to my Wireless switch. So everything goes through IPCop. But after a while I found out that any p...
I have a PC (Intel CPU) running RouterOS 3.23 with 2 RB44 and 2 additional generic NICs. I made an RSTP bridge on the ethers to measure throughput when connecting to a 10 Mbps WAN. This was a small experiment because I was having some kind of low performance in a HotSpot, so I wanted to check throug...
I removed all virtual APs, set security profile to default, and, of course, ad to reprogram each client to this setting.
Now it's stable, but still quite slow...
I'm moving to 3.22
I have one RB433AH with RouterOS3.20 I want to downgrade to 3.13 I load the files, press downgrade, wait.... when it restarts, it shows in systema package "routeros mipsbe 3.13", but every package is 3.20 and winbox titlebar shows v3.20 I tried to re download mipsbe 3.13, BUT LINK IS BROKE...
I have more than 500 entries in my hotspot, each one with comments. When I use the FIND textbox in Winbox, I would like to jump from one hit to the other by pressing Shift F3 or something like that. The reversed grey mark isn't as comfortable as jumping from one hit to the oher...
I use RB112, more than 50 connected to one central AP forming my backbone. They all work grea with 2.9.51. I've tried twice to upgrade (to 3.9 and now 3.2), but unsuccesfully. I had to downgrade, CPU just can't manage 3.x My advice is: don't use 3.x unless you can't use 2.9.51 for what you need. Cho...
I recently replaced an old RB112 with a brand new RB433AH i one of my nodes. I moved from RB112 to RB433AH the same XR2 and RB54 I use to provide service at 2.4 and get to my backbone at 5.8 I configured routerboard the same. But now all the clients that connect using wpa are unstable. I have 6 clie...
Thank you Normis! I entered to mikrotik site, and found there the keys I've bought for my PCs, but I don't know how to find the ones I purchased with routerboards... Do I have anywhere to search using Mac Address or soft-id ? I've never registered the routerboards I bought to local dealers, do I hav...
Hi there! I have a RB133 which didn't survive a storm. So I tried to connect to it via RS232 and luckily I got to see the RB boot menu, and I set it to Ethernet. I ran Mikrotik Router Installer and saw the RB properly, but when I tried to reinstall RouterOS I get this message on RS232 Terminal: Welc...
Thanks for your post Henrik! The truth is everything was set up fine. I did nothing, and suddenly it started working 2 days later. It was not a reboot, I had already tried that. I did not change anything in configuration. Public IP was working (it pinged) So, it just didn't want to work! I left it u...

I had the same problem. I simply disabled web-proxy in Mikrotik and added IPCOP in another PC between WAN and Mikrotik.
That did the trick, till 3.14 arrives...
I would use very common APs, no particular brand, nothing expensive. If you need to balance bandwidth, assign users and passwords and that kind of stuff, just connect every AP to a PC based RouterOS Hotspot, and that'll do. Take into account that you won't be giving roaming to your users, but that s...
In a multi story building, walls are made with light materials, while roof/floor are made with steel and concrete. That's why is easy to get to every room in the same floor from an AP, but very difficult to get to a client on a different story. Easiest way is to put a different AP in each story. Tha...
I wouldn't say "read THE manual". If you do, you'll probably won't understand a word... First you need to learn about networks, and there's no particular place to do that! You'll have to study, here and there. Waste MUCH time trying to find where to study from. Read a lot. Of course, you c...
We did something like that... We placed a different AP on each floor, using channels 1, 5 and 9. Any brand of gateway will do. Just cable the backbone. Placing the APs near to the elevator might save you cable... Of course, every once in a while an AP cease's to work. As they are cheap, you just rep...
You should try creating a Virtual AP.
On that interface, pick the security profile you need, and connect with the point to point link to that interface (obviously, you'll need to use a different SSID)
In the middle of nowhere as your clients seem to be, you don't ever need to worry. Just put the cheapest antenna, with the cheapest radio and it'll work!!!
It might not work if there's too many noise in your frequency, but that doesn't seem to be the scenario...
One radio can transmit between 10 to 20 Mbps (depends on many things, but this number should give you an aproach) So the number of clients is related to the total bandwidth they use. As an ISP, I have many radios with more than 20 clients working fine. I did have trouble few days ago while activatin...
I have more than 50 RB112 working as APs, and they work fine. I did install ROuterOS 3.x on them and DOWNGRADED to RouterOS 2.9.51 When I used V3.x they worked REALLY slow. I had many issues due to poor performance. I decided to downgrade, and since then everything's fine. You should try downgrading...
I did install IPCOP, it works very well, and was very easy to get it running too.
The only thing that bothers is having to use 2 computers instead of one, but it really isn't that bad, is it?
This HAS to be a 2.4 freq issue... On this tower we have 3 RB532, 2 of them have 2 SR5 each. Never had the least problem. Work perfectly well. The third one has an XR2. Its clients vary registration form -55 to -85 randomly. Sometimes they all disconnect... it's a nightmare. Isolation is exactly the...
You know RF... maybe none of those radios is on the frequence that are our radios... All I can tell you is that I have more than 10 nodes all over my town. The only ones that ever had registration problems with client stations were the ones I installed sharing tower with FM radio stations. None of t...
I've been suffering FM RF interference for three days now, and I'm quite desperate... It would be GREAT if someone wrote a FAQ or wiki about installing an AP on top of an FM tower. There are too many things to consider... and many contradictions as well!!! As far as I read (most of it in this forum)...
I'm experiencing the same issue. RB532 2.9.51 with XR2 radio and CM9 working at 2.4 Clients registered to 5.8 wlan have no problem at all. But evey now and then all of the clients registered to 2.4 wlan (XR2) suddenly disappear. And then reappear for a while, just to disappear again. Sometimes it ha...

Hi Hilton!
Yes, your assumption is correct! Freeware is welcomed...
So, SME server seems to be te right option. I guess I'll have to use a second computer for web proxy. Hope Mikrotik fixes web proxy in routerOS 3.x soon!!!!!
Hi, is it possible that sometimes HotSpot "slows down" web browsing to clients with no particular reason? Long version of my question: I have a RouterOS 3.9 on x86 HotSpot running with around 50 active users most of the time. I've detected that users browse the web slower when going throug...
Hi, I have a RouterOS 3.9 on x86 HotSpot running with around 50 active users most of the time. As we were experiencing problems (PC hunged once a day), I was told by a Mikrotik guru to stop using web proxy. That fixed it... but, I need a web proxy!!! As I just "don't do" Linux (please don'...
I've been running a WISP for a few months now, using HotSpot on a PC with RouterOS 3.9 level 5 (3.7 a week ago, and 3.3 a month before) Today (for the first time) it rebooted all by itself, don't know why! There's no script nor schedule to do that. It must be related to other thing that's been happe...
Thank you both for your comments. Thing is I have done it many times, and worked perfect, till now! I installed 3.7 so both computers had the same RouterOS version. It didn't help at all! So, what I did to fix it up was this: I restored the backup exported configuration on both PCs Compared both tex...
OK, what I did was re renaming all ether interfaces on the source PC, so they were all named as they came (ether1, ether2 and so on) I then backed up And restored on the other PC BUT IT DIDN'T WORK There's something that could have something to do: The one I call now DESTINATION PC (where I try to r...
Hi! I'm running a HotSpot on an Intel PC, using RouterOS 3.3 Level 5. It has 8 ether ports, some with their names changed. I make a backup file, copy it to another Intel PC running RouterOS 3.7 Level 5 with exactly the same ether ports (I mean, the whole hardware is the same). When I use restore for...
Hi cpresto! If you use backup, all your mac addresses will be replicted, and that isn't good! What I do is: At the "original" client, using terminal: export file=myconfig then I reorder things a little (for example, make sure security profiles are declared before they are needed) I erase e...
OK, if you use winbox, open the IP menu, do you see "Web-Proxy" at the end of it?
If you see it, open it, and select "Settings", you should see in it "transparent-proxy" to the right of a check box. Just check it!
Did you enable the package? (System -> Packages -> web-proxy )
Are you trying to use it in a PC or in a Routerboard? As far as I know, It won't work in a routerboard...
Chupaka, thanks for your help, sorry I didn't answer before, I just lost reference to this topic... What I intend to do is to connect in a bridged way some clients and in a routed way other clients, all of them connected to a switch and then to ether1 on an RB112 routerboard. I mean, some clients sh...
Are your users connected directly to HotSpot interface, or there's a long array of bridges between them?
If you connect directly to the hotspot interface, do you still have the same problem?
Hi! I'm new to HotSpot, and don't know how to handle this... Every time a customer wants to connect to my hotspot, opens the browser and has to wait for 30 seconds or more to see the log in page. Sometimes they connect and leave the PC untouched for a while, and when they want to use it again, it ta...
OK, I have two different subnets of public IPs, we're OK with that. I should still create a pool fo the second subnet, so HotSpot can work with those IP without natting them. Right? And I'll modify the sourcenatting (masquerading) so it doesn't affect traffic from public IPs, just the ones from my p...
Sergejs, thanks for your post! OK, I have two public addresses available: x.y.z.1 to 15 and x.y.z.129 to 134 I assign x.y.z.1 to my router's public interface I assign x.y.z.133 to my client's interface (which is behind the HotSpot) How do I get that IP through my router to the Internet without natti...
Another way to try would be "Universal Client Interface" (as it was called in version 2.8 ). The client assigns the public IP statically to his interface. HotSpot Fully NATs that IP to one in the subnet it uses (private IP) By marking traffic, one could full nat again to use the public IP ...
I want to assign Public IPs to some of my hotspot users, so my whole network stays transparent for them. I mean, the user will have a Public IP that won't be natted, and that can be reached from anywhere in the world. I was told I should create an IP pool with the rank of public IPs I wanted my HotS...
Ouch!
Knowing that vlan works at level 2, why do I need to give an IP address? Shouldn't it ask me for a MAC Address?
That was the reason I assumed it was level 3...
Maybe I asked a silly question...
As vlan works on level 3, and I'm trying to bridge on level 2, I might be asking for something that can't be done...
Is it that way?
Hi! I have several modems connected to a switch, connected to ether1, bridged to wlan1 (AP) that connects to a client routerboard. On that client routerboard I've configured DHCP server on ether1, and added a rule to route everything and masquerade to wlan1. That works fine. I add vlan1 to ether1 I ...
I configured something like wiki example: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Transparently_Bridge_two_Networks_without_using_WDS_%28EoIP%29 The only difference is that there's an AP in the middle and both ends are stations. I did bridge the networks, and they see each other, but I can no longer access st...
Of course, if someone has a better solution than EoIP, please let me know. I promised the customer he would connect both LANs a if he had a huge switch, from one side to the other... and routing can't give him that... I guess a bridge is the right answer. Remember there are many other clients, they ...
I have a WISP with 50 clients that get their Internet from one connection. I’ve just bridged ether1 to wlan1 in central RB532, and each client (RB112) routes private lan on ether1 with default gateway through wlan1. With a simple queue at the client side I limit bandwidth. But now I have 2 clients t...
OK, I´ve tried everything in the menu, but I still can´t get more than 70 Mbps with BandWidth Test using TCP. With UDP I have reached more than 300Mbps, but when I change to TCP things slow down A LOT. What is the "state of the art", the last word in reaching high bandwidth throughput usin...
I found it! It's so obvious, that I'm a bit embarrased... First, if I want PC2 to see the inner net, then its gateway has to be MT2, not ADSL modem... obvious, no? Second, if I don't want to use NAT (masquerade) to get through the ADSL modem, then I have to add static routes to the modem... o...
I would certainly help you, if I knew how!!
As you know (you've help me in another topic) I'm running many clients in a WDS mesh, and no IP traffic has come to be a pain in the neck.
So, I'm interested, but probably won't be of much help...
Thanks for your post. I assume your 'ombudsman' is a PC running ROS, connected via ether to each RB532, right? So this PC does the main work, and RB532s receive just the minimal traffic they need to, so they don't have to waste time dropping packets. How do you config ROS to get rid of 'bad' pàckets...
maxfava, All signals are near -80, but yes, I do have 2 or 3 clients that connect and disconnect from time to time (say -87 or -90 dBm)
Is this affecting performance?
Should I ask for a minimum of how much?
I've been using 2 SR5 on a RB532 for more than 6 months now, and it works... This last time I've been having drops and cuts in connection, but I'm pretty sure that it has no connection with the fact I'm using 2 SR5. I also use RB112 with R52 or CM9 or SR5. It works (I'm using WDS, NStreme is disabled)
My mistake. MT1 ether1 has IP address 192.168.10.1 (it's in the same net as PC1, but different address) Yes, there's a hub where I connect PC2, MT2 and ADSL modem, they share the same net. As a matter of fact, there are 3 ADSL modems connected to the hub, besides PC2 and MT2. ADSL modems register au...
sergejs, that's correct. Right now I'm counting 13 WDS bridges working in my RB532 from one radio, and 3 more in the second radio. But I'm sure there are a few more clients, they've just powered off them! Am I wrong in doing this? How should I configure my network? I'm planning 40 clients per radio!...
I'm using WDS cause some clients link to others. But most of them link to base AP. There are bridges, all using rstp, as instructed in wiki wds. Why is this a problem? As stated by mikrotik: if you can use WDS instead of EoIP, use WDS. It reduces overhead. Yes, everything is linked, so I may be havi...
I have 3 RB532 with SR5 radios on 120º panels as base, and 30 RB112 with SR5 or CM9 radios as clients. I want to configure them the best way to get as much bandwidth as I can, with no drops (dynamic WDS tends to produce drops in bandwidth when a client connects/disconnects) As I’m just starting, I c...
I published a few days ago a topic about bandwidth falling in my network ( http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=12790 ) Since then, I found GWISAs posts very helpful to understand what could be happening (see these posts: http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=11548 and http://forum.mikrotik...
HI, I've been trying to route this network: PC1 <-> MT1 <-> MT2 <-> PC2 (and ADSL Modem) I did my researches, read many posts in this forum, found something very much like what I needed (http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=12027), but I still can’t get it running! Here are my configurations: P...
I'm experiencing the same problem.
I have more than 15 clients connected using WDS to my central AP, and from time to time everything hungs up for seconds, and/or I have almost no bandwidth.
How did you managed with it?
It's not the board!
Same thing happens to me, and I have RB532 on both sides...
It even happened running BTest on a PC on each side of the link.
I had to unplug power, that's the only thing that worked.
My central AP is connected with every client (still, clients are configured as ap-bridge in WDS mode), almost 20 clients in one radio!
Is this wrong?
I mean, is WDS designed for few connections?
How many?
I have about 30 WDS APs running with SR5 and CM9 radios. I'm using them as an ad hoc mesh, almost all of them connected directly to one base station where I have 3 ADSL connections and one dedicated DSL "very expensive" connection. It all works fine for minutes, and suddenly bandwidth drop...
I think is better to establish an AP on point A, and clients on both B and C "looking at" A.
If you bridge them all using WDS, it'll work.
I'm doing more or less the same, but I have more than 2 clients looking at the AP!

I have 30 APs running WDS at 5.8 GHz. I decided to configure all of my MT as APs so I can use any one of them to "bounce" to the central AP. For the moment, only 3 of them reach the Internet "bouncing" on another AP. All of the others see directly the central AP (that routes to t...
What if mostly all of the APs see each other? I have 30 APs running WDS at 5.8 GHz. Only 2 of them reach reach the Internet "bouncing" in another AP. All of the others see directly the AP that routes to the Internet. Do these AP interfere with each other, making worse the network, or bandw...
I'm using The Dude to find out which addresses I've used in my network (192.168.9.0/24). I use "Discover" and The Dude finds about 80% of the addresses I have in my network, but some of them stay undiscovered. If I ping them (the undiscovered ones), they answer! So I'm not sure what's wron...
I guess following the example in RouterOS's manual on PPPoE will work, straight as it is. Well, that wasn't too hard, no? I'm now planning how to migrate from my actual bridged WDS to this PPPoE configuration the quickest way, so none of my customers even notice... I'll have to make changes sometime...
pacman: 340 clients with static address! wow, I guess I have plenty of time to decide my move! simonkizi: Thanks a lot for your support! I only have 20 clients, and probably will have less than a hundred for the next two years, that's plenty of time to learn how to use this stuff! For the moment, I'm migrating from my actual 'WDS city size hub' to a 'hard wired (static) routed' configuration. I’ve setup my central AP pointing to each...
OK, maybe you can point me to a beginner's HOWTO or book...
I can afford a few hours of advisement, but nothing more. I'm on my own, so if you can, please, point me in the right direction!
I'm starting a WISP using RB532 with two SR5 for the AP and 20 RB112 with 65mW 5.8GHz Atheros transmitter. And I'm not sure how I should configure my network... At the AP, I'm using 3 ADSL lines and one full (expensive) DSL line. My first choice was to configure my RBs as one big hub using WDS. But ...
Ican't make two APs see each other! I can make an AP see a station (client), but I can't make it see another AP. I must be doing something wrong when configuring the AP, but I can't see what it is... Let's say I reset my routerboard, blanking it all. I then enable wlan1, specify ssid, ap bridge mode...
I need more or less the same you posted here.
The thing is I don't know haow to see others AP from an AP... I've set them all to WDS, but I still can't make them see each other...
