Suggestion: w60g supplied cable ties

Hi, One of the units of my trusty old Wireless Wire suffered an early demise due to cable ties failure. It was tied to a post on my balcony since the product was launched. Sadly the cable ties broke and the unit tipped over. It happened during a heavy rain episode, so it suffered water ingress. To m...

Ok I see, I tried with another router and it does apply to any Ethernet traffic over a VLAN, not only PPPoE.

A simple mangle fixed it. Thanks!

Re: v7.2rc1 is released!

I am not using PPPoE. It's just VLAN tagged good old IP over Ethernet.

The phone (it's a DECT base station) does not allow me to change DSCP.

Anyway, does the bug apply to *any* VLAN tagged traffic or does it only apply to PPPoE over a VLAN?

Thanks!

Re: RB4011 and RB1100 AHx4 "bricks" randomly

A question for Mikrotik.

Since firmware version numbers are synchronized with ROS version numbers regardless of changes this is a bit confusing.

Where is the fix for this particular problem? Is it just RouterOS 6.47.8 or is it mandatory to upgrade firmware to 6.47.8 as well?

Feature request: BFD for static routes

Hi, Checking the BFD documentation I am surprised that the simplest use case for BFD is not supported: using it to check the validity of a static route without using a routing protocol (BGP or OSPF). This feature would be extremely useful . Nowadays many Internet services use complex circuits that m...

A misconfigured DNS server can really be a problem. It's difficult to say what's wrong without diagnosing it on site, though. There is a simple test you can perform. What happens if you configure your computer to use *just* a valid, public DNS server (8.8.8.8, or 9.9.9.9)? (I am not mentioning 1.1.1...

Re: iPad vs Mikrotik

Try preamble-mode both? I think there was some trouble with selecting either long or short. And you don't need to capitalize SSIDs. The test network I am using has a lower case SSID. export verbose posted so that you can compare. I didn't do anything special, just set a channel, SSID, security profi...

I use iThings connected to a Mikrotik access point as a matter of routine. I don't know what type of iThings are "advertising based, non-standard" but certainly not mine.

That said, what's the problem? Begin with a straightforward configuration.

Re: Odp: Newsletter 61

I don't agree. Phones and small laptops have weak output power and small antennas. It is better to have multiple devices that are close to the clients, than one unit with big antenna somewhere. In such case, the clients that are further away, will see the AP, but will not be able to talk back to it...

Re: SXTG-5HP ac D - mcs rates under AC ??

Should we keep the signal levels higher with these new -AC units? Won't we have overload problems? In this case, which is the optimum range of signal levels? Sensivity for a 20MHz Channel MCS-9 is -72 (SXT AC). For 40MHz -69. So I guess -60 is the sweet spot. With -70 you will not get 256-QAM 5/6. ...

Re: SXTG-5HP ac D - mcs rates under AC ??

The signal levels are really high. Should we apply a different doctrine to the new -AC units? I mean, with the "classic" -N ones it's recommended to aim for a signal level between -60 and -70 dBm in order to avoid overload. Should we keep the signal levels higher with these new -AC units? ...

Using 127.0.0.1 you hit the CPU twice as hard as it is sender and receiver. My tests are reproducable with a speedtest from PC to speedtest.net. There is a problem other than the speedtest itself. For that purpose (and many others!) Netflow is your friend.
