How to Self-Sign SSL Certificate and Activate HTTPS

Had to dig through a few forums to figure this out. On MikroTik, create the certificate template and a request /certificate add name=SSL common-name=SSL key-size=2048 /certificate create-certificate-request template=SSL key-passphrase=mypassword123 You'll have to use " mypassword123 " for ...

Re: Mikrotik DNS Server - "A" Record Lookups Not Working

Thanks for the tip on the dot after the name! I'm using a work laptop at home (Without VPN turned on) and joined to a domain with a DNS suffix " company.pri ". I did a wireshark capture while doing nslookup for "mikrotik" and noticed the query was sent as "mikrotik. company....

Mikrotik DNS Server - "A" Record Lookups Not Working

I'm using my Mikrotik router (Model: 2011UAS-2HnD Software: v6.4) as a DNS server. I added some static entries. The PTR records work fine for resolution from clients, but the A records do not. Both records seem to be there but only the PTR records are responding to DNS requests. Any ideas? PTR recor...

Re: LLDP

LLDP for viewing neighboring switch/router info for topology maps would be great. I could care less about LLDP MED. I read some Avaya documentation recently that recommended turning off LLDP MED because it can't provide as many options to VoIP phones. Instead use DHCP option 242 which points the pho...

Re: RB2011 & Switch Chip .1q question

Can someone give example commands on how to accomplish this?...or point me to a tutorial. I can't seem to find any single tutorial or document with everything included to setup VLAN's, trunking, and DHCP scopes on the RB2011. Thanks in advance. I'd like to make a trunk to an Avaya 3524 switch. Right...

Re: Use RouterOS as DNS server

I got my issue resolved. It was a firewall rule. I've never had to change it before for whatever reason. I had to create a filter rule to allow input traffic on the WAN port and set the connection type to establish. The router could send out a DNS request, but it wasn't coming back through the fire...

Re: Use RouterOS as DNS server

Are your DHCP leases expiring every hour for some reason? What's the lease time if you do "ip dhcp-server print"?

Re: Use RouterOS as DNS server

Because you are caching the responses, your clients won't suffer from bad performance even if your ISP's DNS isn't good. But I do recommend using your ISPs DNS server because most CDNs relies on the IP address that made the DNS request in order to route you to the closest edge server. So using Goog...

Re: Use RouterOS as DNS server

frego have you tried removing 8.8.8.8 from your DHCP server options as a DNS server? If you renew the DHCP lease on your client and only get your router as a DNS server, does DNS work for you?

Use RouterOS as DNS server

Using an RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN on 6.0rc6. I want to have RouterOS as my DNS server so I can cache DNS responses for my clients from external DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 4.2.2.2, etc). I also want to have static DNS entries for my local IP's (mydesktop.local -> 192.168.0.101, myserver.local -> 192.168.0.102, ...

Thank you for your hint. I am very new to Mikrotik so I need get a little bit more specific hint. I have checked the mangle I understand you suggest that it helps me to LOG every packet before it enters any rules defined by NAT. I have not figured how to log what happens with each packet in terms o...
