I've been using a RB1200 for about 9 months now in production running 5.16 and it has been reliable for us. This is likely an issue with your snmp poller and not related to ROS or CCR - you need to be using 64-bit counters at those rates. Take a look at ifHCInOctets (.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.6) and ifHCOutOctets (.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.10)

I think I've figured out how to get around this problem. To see all traffic on an interface, check the protocol and port checkboxes and select "any-ip" for the protocol and "any" for the port. This does not max out the CPU either. Tested on a RB1000 with 3.30.

I've seen this as well on version 3.x using 450, 450G, and 1000. The only way we can make traffic show up is to check the protocol box and select the protocol type (tcp, udp, etc). This didn't used to be a requirement (?).

Is the address that shows up on the status page in the dhcp lease table (is it someone else's lease, or an IP that hasn't been offered yet)? Strange.

Under the hotspot profile you are using, do you have the Hotspot IP defined there (it works without one)?

The OIDs listed in the registration table contain the MAC address of the clients (you have to convert to hex). So they should never change unless you swap out the radio card of the client you are monitoring from the reg table. We've never had one disappear on us with 2.8 or 2.9.

Even with 4 separate APs (4x 90* sectors - highly recommended over 4 radios in one RB500) with perfect conditions and optionally nStream, I don't think you'll be able to achieve 500 clients. You might want to consider breaking up your network and adding some micro-POPs off your main tower.

Hello all. I've seen this problem on and off for a long time now. I don't think it's a bug, but it'd be nice to handle this more gracefully or understand what conditions cause this. When using the Hotspot, clients sometimes get logged out due to losing their dhcp lease. I think this is mainly due to...

I do have the echo save rule unchecked. To be sure, I'll run a test on one of these routers with NTP client recording the sector writes with and without ntp over the next 2 days (24 hours each test). I'll post back once this is done.

You might try redirecting their port 80 requests to some other website via dst-nat. Not sure of it'll work, but worth a shot.

Determining Hotspot active users are dynamic/local or radius

We are currenlty monitoring active hotspot users by running a script that returns /ip hotspot active print count-only. But, using the trial feature as well as local accounts entered on the router, along with users authenticated by an external radius server, we have no way to tell how many of the act...

In my experiences, it's been with the NTP Client. I actually don't use the client anymore because of this (and my paranoia about the flash failing) although it is still running on this particular router. The uptime of that router I posted stats on is only ~4 days, and there's been 129,000 writes to ...

Thanks for the reply. I guess the confusion on my end (and the reason for posting this) is whether the client or the router is responsible for generating the packets of this certain size. The src-nat rule with action=masq does not have anything to do with the hotspot users surfing or not. Take a look at the forward and dst-nat chains as these are the ones that control hotspot users.

Sounds like you don't have the pigtail antenna connector on the right port of your radio. Try changing that, or set your antenna mode to ant-b. Also, you may want to disable dfs mode until you can get them to link up as setting it to radar-detect can cause the ap to pause while it scans.

One thing I am noticing when sniffing traffic on the router with the hotspot and walled garden - there are a ton of resends/retransmits happening. This is on a test network with ethernet and switches, so it's not likely to be related to the client's connection (my laptop on a switch).
