Re: Need help with spammers/viruses

Just a note: I have found that "drop" is the only defense against the spambots. If you use "reject", the best you can hope for is a standoff with a virus-infected machine. Both machines will eat all your bandwidth with request-reject messages. Make the little suckers wait for a response that will n...

Re: upgrade without available space

Uninstall packages not needed, then upload just the minimum (system, etc) to boot on your network. Then install the rest of the new packages. If these are onboard flash, like RB112, look at bad blocks and the files directory to see why you are short of space.

Possible. Had one fried by lightning. Board ran okay just not that port. Used for testing now; wouldn't trust it with a paying client.

Been there. :) Netinstall will work 100% for us by using a standalone PC with only one network interface (no wlan) forced to 10Mbps. Use a static IP and connect directly to the router.

On the other hand, an Ipod portable router is a cool idea. Maybe an Iphone runnig MT as a Pocket HotSpot.

Went with that one too but ran into a Tropos mesh that had all the same mac but not the same network - go figure. BTW, release implies renew (but renew doesn't release).

Reset does not clear the license nor does the "format nand" option in the bios. If the default login doesn't work, use netinstall to load the latest OS version.

"Disabling IRQ"

Haven't had much luck with betas on RBs; thought I'd try a PC platform. Took a working lastest stable and applied RC6.

All interfaces now cease to function with "Disabling IRQ#" for each of the three. They still show up under /irq and /eth as valid.

If you are using the DNS cache in your Mikrotik router, add a static entry for that address. Make it something like router.mycompany.com or your clients won't properly resolve your website. Also block DNS queries from the outside world in firewall filter; this should be done in any case. Use ipconfi...

Re: Unable to access internet after configuration change - HELP!

You might be able to telnet into you router to make changes. There is also a utility "WinBox" on the MT download page. But better to contact your ISP to set thing backs up properly. I don't know what those commands in webbox set. This is why we disable the router web utility on all our CPEs.
