Could you please provide serial console output from your router? If we put your configuration on a router in our lab and upgrade to v7.0beta, then we do not see such a problem.

Seems that your router goes into read-only mode. That can be caused by corrupted memory and/or HW issues. Netinstall your router to the latest RouterOS version, upgrade firmware and see if that helps. If not, then send supout file from your router to support@mikrotik.com.

Everyone who is experiencing Winbox login problems, please:

1) Make sure that you use Winbox 3.18;
2) If you use Winbox 3.18, then close all of the Winbox applications (for example, reboot computer) and try again;
3) Check if you can log into your router over WEB interface (Webfig).

Have you enabled auto-upgrade feature under System/RouterBOARD menu? It was introduced few versions ago (not in v6.43.8, but earlier). However, option is disabled by default so someone must have enabled it on your router.

At the moment RouterOS tries to resolve cloud2.mikrotik.com IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. After that tries to reach IPv4 server, if server is reachable over IPv4, then this address will be used. if IPv4 server is not reachable, then try to use IPv6. At the moment IPv6 cloud is used as a fallback.

The problem with missing specific menu in Winbox (when connected over RoMON) is a known issue that will be fixed in upcoming Winbox/RouterOS releases. Problem is that the RoMON agent does not have this menu.

Please note that improvements regarding upgrade process will become active only after an upgrade and will not affect upgrade to version 6.42.

Upgrade process happens on the old version, not the one which you try to put on your RouterOS instance.
