Re: Is the RB OS a closed system ?

Thanks for the feedback guys, @jarda - OpenWRT wouldn't really work for me as i woudl prefer to retain the original features, functions and more importantly support from Mikrotik. @Cha0s - As expected to be honest. Metarouter looks interesting and probabully would have worked but as it seems to be n...

Is the RB OS a closed system ?

Hi All, An odd question to ask so i will explain my situation We currently use RB922 RB's setup with a 4G daughter board acting as a router to connect an RPI to the internet which is used to manage a sensor. Seems excessive as i know people will think why dont we use use a 4G modem on the RPI but we...

Re: WAP60G 60 Ghz P2P Range and deployment advice

No worries Ron, i knew it was a cheeky question.. :D I totally get what your saying re design being related to antenna size. Bit of a bugger for me as i need something no bigger than a NSM5 as we often mount 2 or maybe three to a single column http://www.roonies.co.uk/Lamppost1.JPG Although we do te...

Re: WAP60G 60 Ghz P2P Range and deployment advice

I don't suppose anyone has any info on a similar size device to the WAP60G ( Mikrotik, UBNT or any other manufacturer ) that will have a 30 dBi antenna and is therefore outdoor compliant. Doesn't necessarily have to be available today but would be great to know something is in the pipeline. @Nest ( ...

Re: WAP60G 60 Ghz P2P Range and deployment advice

@gr0mit That's an interesting comment, what makes you say that. From what i have read Ofcom officially released the 60 Ghz earlier this year on a free license basis and a Lite license for 64 to 68 i think it was.. may need to check that though. There are a couple of sites in the UK you are not allow...

Re: WAP60G 60 Ghz P2P Range and deployment advice

Ah Ok then... unfortunately that doesn't help as its means the bigger kit needs to go client end which in my case could be a street light and would therefore be to big. Guess i'll have to wait until different hardware is developed.

Thanks for the assistance on this.

Re: WAP60G 60 Ghz P2P Range and deployment advice

Oh that is interesting... Just so i understand you correctly...if i mounted a LHG60G somewhere central and had several WAP60G's all in separate locations with clear line of sight back to the LHG60G in a P2MP setup the WAP60G's would work at a distance of 700 Mtrs ? Would you say 700 mtrs is a maximu...

Re: WAP60G 60 Ghz P2P Range and deployment advice

The LHGG-60ad kit would be perfect if it was about as big as a NanoStation... sadly for my application its just to big. I need something small enough to fit 2 or 3 radios into a single lamp post. I am however deploying this kit in a week or so's time for a customers P2P link between two warehouses.....

Thanks @antonsb Appreciate the response, is the limitation due to hardware and the antenna size / output or a software issue. WAP60G 60 Ghz P2P Range and deployment advice

Hi All, We ( the company i work for ) build and deploy public WiFi networks in the UK. The systems we build use 5 Ghz ( NSM5 ) radios to create a network around the location with no link being longer than 300 Mtrs. At each point there will be a switch, AP and generally 2 x NSM5's. As we deploy so mu...

Re: Block outbound DNS other than to our own DNS Server

Thanks @chechito

I'll try that in the morning. Just out of interest why is it set to in-interface. I presumed it would be out-interface due to the traffic going outbound.

Thanks for your help.

Block outbound DNS other than to our own DNS Server

Hi, We provide a public WiFi system and are using a Router board as our Gateway / Firewall. We also have our own DNS server which also provide content filtering and need to be able to stop all other DNS traffic on a specific vlan going out other than to our own server. i.e. stop clients from using A...

Re: RB922 Off Grid Power

@RogerWilco, Thanks for the feedback. This is a temporary install and will be moved to various locations every week or so. We did look at Solar but decided that with it being in one place for such a short time the installation and removal of a panel woudl be a pain. However for longer installs a sol...

Re: Create PPTP connection for different IP range to main LAN

Thanks for the input @gustavomam The fix was to add the subnet being used by the UBNT equipment ( 192.168.1.1/24 ) as a second LAN Address to the same ether interface as the primary LAN. A PPTP session to the RB provides an IP address on the same 192.168.1.x network via a dedicated pool That allowed...

Re: Bypass Hotspot and Radius for specific IP address

Hi, Thanks for the reply that is very helpful. The RB is quite new to me still so I tend to do most things via the WinBox, I presume there is a menu somewhere for IP binding. Also, is it possible to add a whole subnet as bypass, I am thinking of adding all my infrastructure behind the RB onto a sepa...

Bypass Hotspot and Radius for specific IP address

Hi, We have a RB that is setup in hotspot mode using a Radius server. It is working fine with the internal network being issued DHCP addresses to clients connecting. What we need to do is give some of our hardware, mainly AP's behind the RB direct access to the internet so they can be remotely manag...

Bonding multiple VSL connections

Hi,
We are looking for a way to bond together multiple VSL (fttc) connections. Is this possible with a router board.

We have a 1100 series router board that has been used to test a wireless link which is now redundant, would that work?

Many Thanks
