Extending CRS109 network via RB951G-2HnD

Hi there, I have a CRS109 as my primary home router connecting fibre WAN to my home LAN, with an RB260 switch connecting all the devices in my AV centre to the network. The CRS109 is mounted in the power cabinet in the garage, and at times the WiFi signal down the very back of the house where my off...

Can't get Port Forwarding of 1812 and 16384 to work

Hi there, I have a smoker controller for my BBQ that is WiFi enabled and is supposed to be accessible from both the WiFi network it is on as well as remotely. Both the controller, and the app on my phone that allows you to monitor and set parameters, work flawlessly when my phone is connected to the...

Re: Why are so many of the 'good' units, board only?

rb850Gx2 have same dimensions as rb450 http://routerboard.com/CA150 Thanks, I am aware of that - my point was that you have to buy the unit, case and power supply seperately and assemble. Great if you're a network engineer or electronic hobbyist - not great if you just want to purchase a unit, plug...

Why are so many of the 'good' units, board only?

As per title. e.g. - If you want an affordable Mtk Wireless AC device, there is nothing prebuilt, but they make http://routerboard.com/RB911G-5HPacD and http://routerboard.com/RB922UAGS-5HPacD - the latter of which has better specs than anything up to and including a CRS109 (unless you need multiple...

Re: Hardware Suggestion for Home Network

Related-but-unrelated question :

If I purchase a RB951G-2HnD, I assume it's easy enough to disable routing functionality and just use it as an ethernet switch + wireless AP with a common SSID with the main CRS109 wireless router?

And is it better to do so via manual configuration or using CAPSman?

Re: Hardware Suggestion for Home Network

Thanks for the responses. I'm still a bit confused though. If I was to do this network with a Ubiquiti solution, it'd be Unifi Secure Gateway router -> ToughSwitch POE -> ethernet wall sockets + 2x Unifi AP-LR. I want to build the network with Mikrotik gear. The CAP2n units can replace the Unifi AP-...

Re: Hardware Suggestion for Home Network

Watch out. CRS is not router. You might be disappointed by its routing speed when you use it as router. It is a switch. Maybe that with 100Mbps there will be no impact but you have to think of future also. Are you going to rise your connectivity? If that's the case, why does the Routerboard site sa...

Re: Hardware Suggestion for Home Network

Thanks for the advice! Couple of followup questions : - Given the fairly minimal cost differential between the RB2011 and the CRS109 unit, any particular reason not to get the CRS109? - I notice the CAP2n appears to have a 50mW wireless transmitter, whereas the likes of a RB951Ui-2HnD has a 1000mW w...

Hardware Suggestion for Home Network

Hi all, I only found out about MikroTik recently via a friend - good timing as I'm looking to set up a new home network to cater for my fibre internet connection that is happening soon. Below is the network diagram I'm looking to set up : http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/BlackrazorNZ/HomeNetwo...
