Solution to manage multiple Mikrotiks and access client LANs

Hi, I'm currently managing multiple Mikrotiks at my client locations using OpenVPN. I set up OVPN on each Mikrotik router, edit the .ovpn config with the "route 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 10.8.0.1" so I can access the client's subnet and manage devices (printers, other devices). I'm making ...

Re: CAP AC with VLANs on wifi and on ethernet interfaces

Maybe I am wrong, but I do not see the needs of VLAN if communication between CAP and CAPsMAN are on L2. It's enough to have two bridges in CAPsMAN, first one for LAN, second one for guests, with own dhcp server for each bridge. You can control traffic between bridges in CAPsMAN with firewall. Same...

Block LAN access, allow only Internet + some restrictions

Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out this: I have a LAN, 192.168.88.0/24 One IP within this LAN is assigned to a Ubiquity AP wich serves Internet access to a small park. The IP is 192.168.88.254 via static DHCP. The AP has it's own DHCP and subnet (10.10.10.0/24). I would like to block access to my 192...

I fully agree with that. I routinely use /23 /22 and /21 subnets without any issues. Furthermore, when you extend the existing subnet the existing addresses can remain the same. I agree. I've done it numerous times without a hitch. Especially on DHCP-only networks without anything statically config...

Re: More than 254 IPs needed! What options do I have?

There are only 3 devices wich have static IPs, 2 Hikvision DVRs on wich we have access and a Konica Minolta Bizhub printer on wich we also have access.

I will reduce the lease time, I believe many of the IPs are used by random smartphones that just come and go.

512 would be more than enough.

Re: How do I take this? Static routes?

You are mostly correct. As of 6.40, there is no more master/slave config. But the concept is the same. eth4 cannot be bridged or a slave of any other interface, it becomes separate (a routing interface instead of a switch interface). You put an IP on that interface, say 192.168.100.1/24 from your e...

Yeah, NAT will work as long as they know the address of the printer in the other network and whatever else they need to get to. You can. If you want to keep that traffic separate from the rest you would have to put in firewall rules on the hAP that you put the new network on. The rules would keep the 2 subnets from contacting each other. If you look at the default config of a MikroTik, you can see in /ip firewall nat the ma...

The auto-negotiation standard grew to quickly. Vendors may have different interpretations on how 10/100 auto-negotiation should work. These interpretation issues are rare in gigabit links. Setting one side to auto and then the other to hard coded causes duplex mismatch on 100 Meg links but should work on 1 gig links. Ideally you want to match on both sides. Have you tried any other versions of RouterOS to see if there is any difference? Another easy test is to put a cheap dumb switch...

What happens if you hard code speed/duplex on each side to 100/Full or 1000/Full ?
I have no way of setting the interface on the EPON, I will try though to set eth1 on the hAp to 100 full. Should I also set 100 full to eth2, 3, 4?

Sounds like your trying to switch and bridge the same ports. If you have ether3, 4 & 5 as master-port 2 then just Ether2 should be added to the bridge.
Sorry, I wrote it wrong!

Yes,

Ether3 4 and 5 are set having ether2 as master and bridge1 has ether2 and wlan1 as ports.

Not really - at least not with all the bells and whistles you're asking for such as looking for host IDs in DHCP leases. I will point out that the most reliable scanning tool is an ARP ping scan. I now have my private LAN\WLAN with 192.168.1.0/24 and a guest WLAN with 10.0.0.0/24 that cannot reach the priva...

Re: I'm moving to Mikrotik - yayyy, few questions

As I stated in the first post, I usually deal with small office networks, so a device like Hap Lite is much much better than the usual ISP junk modems that they have in there, most of them keep their networks all managed by those modems. I used consumer devices like TP-Link WR1043 with 3rd party fir...

Re: I'm moving to Mikrotik - yayyy, few questions

Make sure to change your Winbox port and disable services you don't need like SSH, FTP, etc. Sent from my mobile device. Just did, I only left Winbox as a service. I just moved the rules that allow ICMP and UDP on the input chain up, and now for some reason it works, I have DNS responses and ping r...

I'm moving to Mikrotik - yayyy, few questions

Hi, As I have more and more SOHO projects I got tired and frustrated with those cheap "consumer" toys, D-link, Tp-link, even with 3rd party firmwares installed (dd-wrt, openwrt) and decided to jump higher onto the Mikrotik range, so here I am. I just ordered some HAP Lites for start, I can...

Re: Cloud Hosted Router

Hi,
Can someone help me figure out why my VirtualBox just shuts down the VM all of a sudden? I can barely reach the login prompt.

Vbox 4.3.30 on OpenSUSE 13.1

I did all the steps in the first post using the .vmdk image, except for setting up Acceleration to KVM, there is no such option in my Vbox.
