Re: Need advice with a proper router for my home.

...and add consumer WiFi AP's by other brands... I'd never do that! Just let the crap consumer stuff out of this! Adjusting manually APs is very annoying, especially in crowded environment. CAPsMAN manage and optimize things very well. We run it on very harsh environment with much success (20+ mix ...

Re: Need advice with a proper router for my home.

Question is how future-proof it would be in a couple of years, if modern day mid-range consumer routers (120$-200$ already have 256MB - 512MB RAM and comparable dual/quad-core CPUs. You can't compare "Consumer / ProSumer" router with the Mikrotik product whatsoever... You choose a router for its pa...

Re: Question about CAPsMAN at home

I have many setups using as much as 4 SSIDs (each SSID has its own VLAN) distributed on many APs, all that managed with CAPsMAN. Wireless clients transparently roams around using the best signal. Some of the wireless clients implementation roam better than others, meaning the "stick less" and change...

Re: Mikrotik for Large Warehouses scenarios

We made a project with a large chemical products enterprise. Many floors with metallic mesh floors, offices, etc. We used SXT with CAPsMAN. They use the wireless network mainly with iPads for watching videos about repair procedures for machinery. We expanded the same network to offices, adding wAP-A...

I came here searching for exactly the same need and the same hardware! I read that you can achieve redundancy and traffic aggregation using bonding mode 6 (Balance ALB) https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/linuxonibm/com.ibm.linux.z.l0wlcb00/l0wlcb00_bondingmodes.html This setup is said to wo...

Re: RouterBoard directly exposed to the internet

Here is a RouterOS hardening guide from MUM: https://mum.mikrotik.com/presentations/KH17/presentation_4162_1493374113.pdf You can limit pings from inside network only or rate-limit it. The default config is decent but have a look at the hardening guide. Like the previous poster said, at least disabl...

Re: Need advice with a proper router for my home.

Memory is mostly for buffering when network contention occurs. How fast is your internet connection? How much ethernet ports do you need? For WiFi, is it a big house with multiple stairs? Concrete? Do you need high bandwidth between VLANs and security? The hAP AC2 is able to push about 2 Gbps in rou...

Anyway you could request about pulling a fiber cable? I believe they would appreciate the upgrade. They are so cheap now, premade too from fibercablesdirect . Of note about the CRS328 series, this is a CRS3xx, so you can do it via switch menu, or newer style. Don't mix the two methods. Have you rea...

Re: CRS328: Searching for infos / pointers about hardware COS DSCP

I've never worked in a network that was so saturated that the Trunk port on a Switch was a place of contention for VoIP traffic. I always handle this at the Router. Here it is the case. The client is a TV broadcast station and they often transfer 50G+ files to the media server. One PC is able to sa...

CRS328: Searching for infos / pointers about hardware COS DSCP

Hi all, Just received a brand new CRS328-24P-4S+RM and wish to use it as a VoIP / PC access layer switch. So in a classic way, each port of the CRS328 will receive a connection from a 802.1Q IP Phone (Grandstream GXP2140) which will provide access port for a PC. We want to make sure the CRS328 will ...

Linux network bonding is very flexible. Here is a couple of references for you: https://developer.rackspace.com/blog/lacp-bonding-and-linux-configuration/ https://www.cloudibee.com/network-bonding-modes/ Mode 0 (balance-rr): This mode is also known as round-robin mode. Re: MTU & Actual MTU [SOLVED]

In Mikrotik world MTU = layer3 MTU and generally shouldn't ever exceed 1500 I'm late in this thread but i post for those who will get here searching for MTU in Mikrotik. Jumbo frames would be more than 1500 bytes. For example, we have GlusterFS storage nodes hooked to a 10 Gbps switch with jumbo fr...

Re: Message "does not allow station-bridge" when client cannot connect to capsman

His goal would be to put the CAPs interfaces in ap-bridge mode (which is a must to get station-bridge working) which doesn't seem to be supported. I have a setup with CAPsMAN running perfectly for all smartphones, PCs, etc. but i have a remote wAP (we have an ethernet remote device connected to it) ...

RB1100AHx2 would do great. It has ipsec acceleration (good for linking remote sites) and ethernet bypass (very interesting for dual router / dual internet access setups).

for lower than 10Gbps speed there is no need for SFP/SFP+ port, basically.

Wireless Dual SSID with VLAN on RB2011 and RB951

I already have a bridged wireless network with 7 x RB951/RB751 hooked to a central RB2011. It has only one SSID right now, everything is bridged by the RB2011 and the users are able to roam. The RB2011 has the DHCP server and route to the rest of the network. This network is for private use. Now i w...
