Re: hAP AC2+cAP AC Roaming is a joke

Anyone who has attended or watched one of Ron's panels on WiFi realizes he is a very trustworthy source for information and advice. I would heed his words. What I do see repeatedly mentioned is 802.11k/r/v, which as of now (to my knowledge) is completely absent from RouterOS. I pray the Mikrotik guy...

Re: 802.11ax [SOLVED]

Wow, did this thread derail left and right.... It seems to me that Mikrotik doesn't announce hardware they haven't started final QC on. Many announcements lately are only a month or two before release it feels like. I have a grand total of 0 ax-compatible devices. Even if I did have one, the ...

Re: any suggestions for gaming WIFI network

I know this isn't directly helpful for your problem, but a strong recommendation to avoid wireless for gaming at all costs. Wireless, even perfect conditions with a professional setup, cannot ever compete with the reliability of direct ethernet copper or fiber. I know this as I compete in PC gaming ...

Not sure if already suggested, but JSON support would be absolutely amazing!!!!!

See: JParseFunctions for a kinda hacky (but extremely useful) workaround that really needs to be implemented natively!

Re: 802.11r/k, Band Steering

Man, I was just coming on to try to determine the status of 802.11r/k/v support due to having multiple less-than-stellar roaming issues amongst my CAPSMAN setup. Even Microsoft has caught up with these standards and is recommending them . I love Mikrotik products so much but the RouterOS lag on doin...

Re: cAP-AC (US Model) UNII-3 5745-5825MHz not available? Bug?

Bonus point of interest: from the chart referenced on page 47 of the FCC 13-22 document above, U-NII-3 is not limited to 30dBm like what shows in Mikrotik's US3 country profile above, but 36 dBm (and 53dBm for outdoor PTP). Please also check into this. It was explained to me that I was likely mista...

cAP-AC (US Model) UNII-3 5745-5825MHz not available? Bug?

Although the US models of the cAP-AC "RBcAPGi-5acD2nD" are stated on the product page "cAP ac-US (USA) is factory locked for 2412-2462MHz, 5170-5250MHz and 5725-5835MHz frequencies . This lock can not be removed." These devices force country profile "unitedstates3" which refuses any other 5Ghz frequ...

Re: Privacy-oriented public blacklist?

The router ITSELF is calling home! So that would be the first thing to fix? Every hour, the CCR connects to upgrade.mikrotik.com and does GET /routeros/LATEST.6 HTTP/1.1 and then depending on the version that is returned it does e.g. GET /routeros/6.42.5/CHANGELOG HTTP/1.1 Fortunately it appears th...

Privacy-oriented public blacklist?

Does anyone have or know of a good resource that publishes an IP blacklist for known privacy-violating addresses? I know in some folks' drop lists they have addresses for government websites, Google phishing and marketing servers, etc. I'd love to know where I can find a comprehensive list to block ...

That is a huge list, not sure what the performance impact on a RB would be.... but I was actually searching for a list of "known" privacy blacklists (something that blocks government, google, etc. marketing and phishing servers)... this one I'll bookmark. Maybe I'll run a webservice on a local high-...

+1 for this. Impossible to route selected IPv6 traffic through a particular interface without it, unless someone has a fancy workaround.... shocked this is still missing.

Re: Frustrated trying to set up PPTP VPN client through NAT

I want a certain set of packets (identified by Layer 7) to be routed out the VPN tunnel (via PPTP Client) instead. IMHO this can't ever work realiably, except for some special cases. Whole TCP is out, because anything useful you can find using L7 will be only in subsequent packets, and once the fir...

Re: Frustrated trying to set up PPTP VPN client through NAT

I made some progress today. I swapped to a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem and my ISP has enabled a "gigabit" plan (1G down / 35M up) that alerted me to the fact that my queue tree setup was dropping some serious packets. No matter what I tried to do I could not prevent it from dropping packets. So I disable...

Re: Frustrated trying to set up PPTP VPN client through NAT

Well, I tried swapping over to L2TP with IPSec, and it connects and does the same jazz except now the browser SSL connection works on ONE client only, everything else fails.

There's still something extremely odd about this setup and I can't figure it out.

Re: Frustrated trying to set up PPTP VPN client through NAT

I also decided to WireShark one of my Windows client PCs to see if I could find out why the SSL connection is failing. http://imgur.com/a/bMTsK As seen in the above screenshot, you can see my local Windows client (10.2.0.107) contacting the remote web server (46.4.175.45), beginning a TLS handshake,...

Re: Need help to set up basic home router on broadband

Well like any good tech geek, I figured it out through a lot of trial and error. The only piece I was missing was adding a DHCP client on the WAN interface. If your cable modem doesn't serve your public ISP address to the router after that, you might need to log into it directly and reset it's confi...

Need help to set up basic home router on broadband

Hello, I have been trying to setup my CCR1009 routerboard to replace the Cisco RV180 I have currently. I am a software engineer who works from a home office, with a decent amount of network devices. I chose this router because I believed it would be able to handle the bi-directional workload require...
