I have had the same issue for months, even when swapping out with optics. My support case was closed "cannot reproduce". This didn't happen with my old RB4011.

Mikrotik support mentioned somewhere on the forum that band steering prioritises 5GHz over 2.4, so the problem is likely a client issue.

Yes, now the rb5009 doesn't need the qcom package you will have to upload it for the ax APs for auto upgrade to work via capsman

Both CAPsMAN systems can work at the same time. Yes, they use the same port, but they differ the "call" from CAP and recognise which one must manage the CAP. Common mistake might be that old CAPsMAN is trying to generate certificate on a system where WiFi CAPsMAN was already made on older...

..which means you can now use a single router to run both old and new CAPsMAN. It's not working here, at least not in parallel, since both capsman daemons try to bind to the same port 5246/udp, and the one that boots up first, wins. On my device it's either A or B, and I don't see an option to bind...

Do devices running the new wifi-qcom-ac package still have the old wifiwave2 limitation where VLANs couldn't be configured?
Found it in the wiki:
802.11ac chipsets do not support this type of VLAN tagging (vlan-id), but they can be configured as VLAN access ports in bridge settings.

OMFG!!!! I had to check it out before believing - 5009 as wifi capsman, 2x cap ax and now 3x wap ac, all in the same capsman - FINALLLY!!!
working without issues, had to manually uninstall old wireless package after check for upgrade.
Do you have the new version wAPac with an arm CPU?

This appears to work, my laptop has been able to fast roam for the first time and the dreaded SA Query Timeout message is gone. In the logs my other clients show "[client MAC]@[radio name] roamed to [client MAC]@[radio name]" when fast roaming. My XPS only ever has a disconnect/reconnect log entry or the dreaded SA Query Timeout.

This is a 2x hAPax3 setup with an rb5009 as capsman controller.

Maybe, I don't get the point of CAPsMAN, but isn't its job to completely manage the WiFis on the CAPsMAn and simply provisioning them to the CAPs?

Yes for standalone APs 802.11r works between the radios (usually 2.4GHz and 5GHz). For capsman managed devices 802.11r should work between all managed radios. But not between capsman managed devices and a separate standalone device.

Yes clarification would be good. Now that I've read further into it DS != capsman for sure. ft-over-ds may even make transitions slower than with just ft enabled due to the check back to the old AP.

Have you extended out your VLANs to the caps devices too? Note only local forwarding is supported in wifiwave2 capsman, so ensure your wifi devices are added to your bridge vlans on the caps.

You cannot (yet?) run legacy wifi devices on a wifiwave2 capsman. You can't downgrade any ax devices to use a non wifiwave2 driver, only compatible ac devices can do that. Thanks, that didn't seem to do anything for me, still stuck at 500Mbps with capsman enabled compared to 7-800Mbps without.

I dropped tx-power on the 2GHz radio to 12 so that clients prefer the 5GHz radio. It doesn't seem to affect 2.4GHz connectivity much when you're far enough away for the 5GHz signal to be attenuated.

Antenna gain cannot be configured under capsman.
Antenna gain needs to be set in the normal wireless settings before capsman is enabled on the cap. It's CLI only now after a config change, but still works AFAIK.

I'm interested in why stock dried up for so long, was it really production issues or a hardware revision change?
