Random spikes in graphs

Every now and then we get a random spike in our bandwidth charts (see image). The data is pulled via SNMP, so I presume there's been an issue reading the data. The spike itself doesn't bother me too much, but it does squash the scale of the chart to a point where it's no longer useful. For example, ...

Re: Wireless Wire Dish + wAP 60G AP = longer range?

@antonsb - those numbers are great. What range would you expect we can get 200Mbps (TX+RX)?

Re: Wireless Wire Dish + wAP 60G AP = longer range?

Thanks @mlenhart! The antenna gain is symmetric for send and receive. It will be better - but will it be significant?

@antonsb - looking forward to it!

Re: Wireless Wire Dish + wAP 60G AP = longer range?

Thanks mistry7 - that would be great. It usually takes a few months for equipment availability in Australia. How long do you think until you might get your hands on a unit?

Difference between "wAP 60G" and "wAP 60G AP"?

Is the difference between the wAP 60G and wAP 60G AP just the licence level?

Wireless Wire Dish + wAP 60G AP = longer range?

The new 60GHz products are very interesting, however, the 200m range limit of the wAP is a challenge. Can a Wireless Wire Dish (RBLHGG-60ad) be used as a CPE with a wAP 60G AP (RBwAPG-60ad-A) as an access point? If so, what is the likely range? If this combination could get 2Gbps @ 500m it would ope...

Re: IPv6 support in Dude

+1 for us too. We have around 50 MikroTik routers on our network, all monitored by Dude. It's one of just two things holding up our IPv6 cutover.

Not all "raw value" data not showing on charts

Up until recently we had our "Raw value keep time" set to 10mins due to disk space limitations. I was excited to increase the disk space thinking we'll be able to see a far greater amount of raw data on charts. While it has worked for some charts, most charts are only showing an hour of raw data, ev...

Dude on multimonitors - a little annoying

If the main Dude window is sitting on a non-primary display, and you open a window of any sort (perhaps a device's settings window), the new window will jump to the primary display. It's quite an annoying quirk, as opening new windows are jumping from my left-most display all the way to my right-mos...

Using CHR on AWS with a disk bigger than 1GB

We're running CHR in AWS as a Dude server. This works great for our purpose, but we had hit the limits of the 1GB disk that comes from the standard AMI image. Resizing the disk proved very difficult. To get a disk bigger than 1GB I ended up having to create our own AMI from scratch and manually upda...

Hotspot idle-timeout default not matching documentation

A really simple one - the doco shows the default as hotspot idle-timeout as 5m, however under 6.40.1 the default is applying as unlimited. I was scratching my head until I manually set a value to resolve the issue. Is the doco wrong, or is there a bug in Hotspot?

Re: New hardware form factors desired

Thanks @normis,

Maximum range (like Ubnt's UAP-LRs) and daisy-chain ability are my top two dreams.

By-the-by - I'm glad to see decent sized PoE switches coming. That was my next dream topic.

Re: New hardware form factors desired

Gee, the wsAP does look very promising!

No joy with the cAPs though - they're still lacking 5GHz and high antenna/radio specs.

Thanks for the pointer @sup5!

New hardware form factors desired

We install a lot of WiFi in residential high rise buildings. Before the end of the year we're booked to install another 950 APs in various new buildings. At the moment we're using Ubiquity UAP range. But I really don't want to. Each year their wholesale price point rises, and their software is missi...

Re: Hotspot MAC exception not working for XBox/PS4/Sonos

I'm glad to be of help! Headless devices aren't going away. I can only see them getting more common with IoT.

I only wish Mikrotik would fix that feature.

Re: Hotspot MAC exception not working for XBox/PS4/Sonos

We have around 30 sites currently and looking to put on another 20 sites each year. We're using CCR1009 for the smallest sites, larger CCRs for the larger sites. The latest RouterOS of course. We'd really love a solution based solely on the Mikrotiks, as they're so near to perfect for the task, exce...

Re: Hotspot MAC exception not working for XBox/PS4/Sonos

Hey @Normis,

In summary, Hotspot login-by=mac doesn't work with XBoxes, PlayStations, Sonos, AppleTV or SmartTVs. We'd really love a fix for this - we're finding 50% of our customers have these types of devices and it's causing some real grief.

Ubnt's new SFPs - do they work with CCR/Hex?

Ubiquity has their new SFP's on the market at a good price. And they have SFP's with BiDi. Has anyone had the opportunity to test these on a CCR/hAP? I'm particularly interested in the 1Gb variant, UF-SM-1G-S.

Issues with "AWS CHR Installation" guide

So I found that AMI in AWS's market place has a partition size of 1GB, regardless of how big the disk is. Alright, that's a pain, my Dude installation is quite big and needs a bit more, so I was forced to look at the more complex process described in Creating your own CHR image . I've found a couple...

Hotspot MAC exception not working for XBox/PS4/Sonos

Morning! We provide Internet services for residential highrise buildings. We exclusively use RouterOS's Hotspot feature with a RADIUS backend to facilitate authentication and access control. With the growing number of devices that don't have a browser for users to login we're desperate for a method ...
