Well I've just finished reloading the second SXT that I had bricked. Unlike the QRT, the SXT took about 10-15MB of data to get that initial boot phase sorted. Not sure why there was so much difference, but there was.

If the larger power supply doesn't work try upgrading the firmware "/system routerboard> upgrade". I had one of these 951's that was randomly rebooting, the upgrade cured it.

Well just as an update for everyone else, I did get the handoff working quote well by setting all the AP's with the same SSID. Leave the MAC's as individual and it seems to work quite well without the need for scripts to "kick" devices off weak AP's.

I would suggest the majority of the equipment you find is going to struggle if you point it "bottom in to the rain" as that's where the water ingress protection is the weakest. I've only been on the receiving end of one fault in about 2-3 years of using mikrotik's, and all that did was make the USB connected modem run very slow, so I could have still fixed it remotely if I wanted.

There is a fix released in the beta version 6.45.18 and 6.45.19. It's working well. I assume it will get in to the stable release at some stage.

There is something wrong with ROS 6.44 onwards. I just finally got sick of putting up with it.
My netgear MR1100 has been working pretty well for 6 months.
Since that update the internet speeds are glacial.

If I manually downgrade, its fine.

I'll second the Nighthawk M1. A little bit fiddly, doesn't always behave how you think, but once its setup it does go quite well. USB tethering works a treat, can get 80+ Mb/s over USB. unfortunately the data and info serial channels appear to be the same so I can't send further AT commands while connected to determine what state the modem's in.
Its pretty shite for that, however good find on the info I'll give it a try this week.

I'm guessing but try this. System > Routerboard > USB and set the USB port to Mini-PCIe On the RB953 you can only run either the type A port or the mini-PCIe ports. Best thing would be to rule out the Mikrotik.
Get a laptop and plug it in to that Zyxel switch and test back to the Mikrotik from there.

There could be a million things wrong here, but you need to rule something out unless you want to suspect everything.

No, the speed will be capped at about 25Mbps.
I'm not sure if there is anything in particular I'm doing different, but this is through a MC7430 running a PPP connection.

I did a bit more testing today which told me this much. It's pretty flakey, ie when the modem wants to fart around it does. When it wants to work it works well. Nope, sticking with MC7710, most stable after all.

Then just as I post this I spot that both VAP's are using the same MAC. So I changed one and bingo they both start working.
Can anyone confirm if this is normal that you need to renumber those MAC's when creating multiple VAP's?
