Re: Always have to power cycle after updating RouterOS

No, I haven't updated the firmware, but I was wondering about that myself. I've never seen anything relevant in the updates to my 850Gx2 so never bothered. Interestingly, the router tells me that the 'upgrade firmware' is 6.41.3 - that's the RouterOS version... something's got mixed up there I think...

Always have to power cycle after updating RouterOS

I've had this every time I have updated the RouterOS on my 850Gx2, and it's really making me nervous about doing updates. Is there anything I'm doing wrong, or missing? Last time was when I got the advisory email about the botnet two weeks ago. I opened the web page for my router and clicked the 'ch...

No response after connecting to command line

I have just updated my 850Gx2 to v6.38.5 and no longer get a response when I log in via SSH, or even from the Webfig Terminal. Webfig itself works fine. I have rebooted the router, several times, and done a real power cycle too. My login is accepted in SecureCRT, but then there is no response to my ...

Re: v6.37.1 [current] is released!

I'm just reporting an odd glitch I had when I upgraded to this release on Sunday morning. It might not be important, but... I upgraded at about 8:10am Sunday. Today, I became aware of some UDP packet loss with an online application I use; averaging around 4% loss. As a first step I rebooted my FTTC ...

Re: Proxy ARP on VLAN/Bridge - was working, now isn't

After working all this time, this afternoon I noticed the server had no connection again. Exactly the same issue as before, with toggling the arp giving a 24-25 second connection. I guess that 'resets' the port in some way. I'm plugged into a different port on my main (not Mikrotik) switch this time...

Re: ntp server package loses client functionality

Thank you for the confirmation.

It's a shame we can't keep the sntp client - seems odd to have to take a backwards step that way to get the server. Not a killer though.

ntp server package loses client functionality

I had my ntp client on ROS 6.35.4 set up using  server-dns-names with multiple *.uk.pool.ntp.org entries, as I have always done on other systems. Then I found out that I needed to install the ntp package to get server functions for the rest of my network, so I did. My client config was lost and ther...

Re: Proxy ARP on VLAN/Bridge - was working, now isn't

It does indeed, and at one point I did make a loop momentarily by connecting the 'just in case' trunk port to my switch, along with the non-trunked ports. I shut that port on the switch down in the time it took to get down from the loft (I meant to do it before, but I forgot). But that was a while b...

Proxy ARP on VLAN/Bridge - was working, now isn't

A quick question to start off with: Exactly where should proxy-arp be enabled for a routable bridge interface with one ethernet port and a VLAN/trunked port? So that the devices on the public network can get out through the router. In my config (ROS 6.35.4 on an RB850Gx2) I have the following, which...

Re: Bug: filter rules using !<interface> do not match if <interface> is down

I know this is an old post, but it's the only one that a search has thrown up. I have the issue described above and lost http connection to my router because of it. In the middle of configuring the filtering, I accidentally closed my browser and therefore lost the 'existing' session accept rule whic...

RB850Gx2 - IPv6 support?

I've just taken delivery of my shiny new 850Gx2, and I'm a bit stumped.

There is no IPv6 tab on the left in WebFig, and no 6to4 option on the Add Interface in Interfaces.

Please tell me - does this support IPv6?

I've been building my setup with RouterOS on ESXi, and it has those options.

Re: Static NAT - why does this not work?

Right, thanks for that, now it's starting to make more sense. A cup of Earl Grey (to clear out the Kraken rum) and a quick brain reboot helped. Yeah, my modem/router is in transparent mode, but doing the PPPoA itself and with the .17 public address (assigned to the dialer interface automatically) al...

Re: Static NAT - why does this not work?

The problem occurs when you don't have routed subnet (which I suspect is the case for OP). You might be right about that... I always assumed (in my ignorance) that it was a routed subnet from my ISP going on about 'only five usable address, network address, broadcast address' etc. when I persuaded ...

Re: Static NAT - why does this not work?

Ahh... thanks for the clue! No, .22 was not assigned to anything. On the Cisco, that's how it needs to be; it doesn't need assigning to anything to be used as the NAT-to address. After assigning .22 to my WAN bridge (as well as .20) the two NAT rules work as expected. I wasn't sure the box would lik...

Static NAT - why does this not work?

I'm trying to set up RouterOS in ESXi to duplicate my current Cisco config, in preparation for my 80/20 fibre line and buying a Routerboard. I have a routed /29 public subnet (xx.yy.zz.16/29) and want to use one of those addresses (the one applied to my bridged WAN connection, xx.yy.zz.20) for the w...

Re: Can RouterOS replace my Cisco 1841?

Ahh.. BCP... that explains that then, thank you. Never heard of that one. By the way, that manual page is blank, not that it matters. I very much doubt my ISP will turn on BCP for me (although I think I'll ask on the forum, just to enjoy the blank stares :) ). Back to the drawing board. @ZeroByte, A...

Re: Can RouterOS replace my Cisco 1841?

Thanks for that - I've just come back here and that's exactly what I've been trying to do. The web gui did not give pppoe-out1 (I'm using the default names in my config) as an option to add to the bridge, so I tried the command line: [admin@MikroTik] /interface bridge port> add bridge=bridge1 interf...

Demo Expired??? I've just installed it.

I downloaded the RouterOS demo yesterday (less than 24 hours ago). I've spent a few hours with it on an ESXi server, trying to get bridging working. Nothing doing - I can't ping across the bridge no matter what; in fact, I can't even ping the bridge IP itself from one side from a directly connected ...

Re: Can RouterOS replace my Cisco 1841?

Ah-ha - thank you! That's what I was expecting, but I could not see a way to assign an IP address to my bridge. I should have dug a little deeper before asking. Or just got some sleep, which I did. IP->Addresses is the answer! (I don't know how I missed that, but I did). The one thing I could never ...

Re: Can RouterOS replace my Cisco 1841?

Possibly answering my own question... I've just installed RouterOS on an ESXi host. It seems to be failing at the first test. Using the web interface, I've done simple config with my public IP on ether1 (seems fixed as the WAN port) and private range on ether2. Fine so far. I create a bridge, and ad...

Can RouterOS replace my Cisco 1841?

RouterOS Newb alert... ;) I'm about to upgrade from ADSL to 80/20Mbps Fibre on Plusnet. My current setup follows; it's probably a bit unusual. What I need to know is if I can replace the Cisco 1841 with a RouterOS based device doing the same job. Probably a RouterBoard; I can't be bothered building ...
