Because you have to put the file in "flash" directory to store on SPI flash. Files stored anywhere else is on RAM drive.

Routing power does not come for free. Get a more powerful one and it will work. Just don't expect miracles from a sub-$50 device. And probably v7 will not solve anything for the same hardware.
