Re: QoS for IPTV

Thanks, sindy, for your concise explanation, it's very helpful. Out of the curiosity, can this behaviour be regulated by various vlan-header options on switch1-cpu under /interface ethernet switch port , or is this setting ignored? In various descriptions that I read, the general idea is to just kee...

Re: QoS for IPTV

OK, I found the culprint - I'll describe it if somebody gets stuck with that. And I also have a few more questions :-) On the main, WAN facing RB951G the VLANs are set in switch chip in this way (for clarity I removed some items, but can produce them if needed): /interface ethernet switch port set 0...

Re: QoS for IPTV

PS: I started from scratch, separating workstations' internet access from STBs' internet access, and it seems to be working nicely, at last. Obviously, something somewhere went wrong.

Re: QoS for IPTV

Thanks, mkx! As I understand hybrid ports, in gigabit switch chips the setting vlan-header is ignored (with vlan-mode=secure), so your vlan-header=always-strip becomes vlan-header=leave-as-is, but on Atheros 8227 you have to be strict, putting for instance: /interface ethernet switch port set 4 defa...

Re: QoS for IPTV

Thank you both for these interesting notions. I suspect that something might be wrong with the modem setup (innbox g64) and/or the WAN facing RB951G. @sindy, I assume that RB951G is "strong" enough to deal with all the traffic. It's not the hAP ac lite that I use for the "main" router. Both STBs tha...

Re: QoS for IPTV

Hi Metod, The problem is DL, as it seems to me. CPU load goes from 0-1 % to 2-6%, both on the "main" RB (to the modem) and the ones that have STBs attached. VLANs are configured in switch chips. For packet sniffing, I changed the setup according to the notion "Packets that are processed with hardwar...

Re: QoS for IPTV

Hi, I'll continue to use this thread since it depicts my situation quite well, however I'd like to do the opposite - to slow down IPTV. In my setup, I have two set-top-boxes, they get IPTV traffic over VLAN (ID=3999), for internet access they use the same VLAN as other workstations (untagged traffic...

Re: IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

Thanks, Metod (we should grab some beer :-) ). Problem solved, it was a stupid mistake on my part - the IPTV port on RB was connected to the trunk port on ISPs modem, however I provide Internet connection for BOXes through LAN port. So I changed the configuration on modem from trunk to video, change...

Re: IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

More on this subject, since I already explained the topology, as above … I've put all VLAN "marshalling" into hardware (switches) of my RBs, and everything seems to be fine, except … When I turn on TV BOXes, the web surfing on computers gets really slow, and this slowness is sporadic. I even establi...

Re: IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

Many thanks for further explanation. Since I'm sure now that IPTV traffic goes through this kind of setup smoothly, I'll put everything in hardware :)

Re: IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

Ha, I found the problem - I had to add switch-cpu on the other RB951G(2), too. Now it works. Now I'll put everything to hw offloaded bridge, including IPTV ports from modem and STB. Thanks, mkx, for pointing me in the right direction!

Re: IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

I added switch-cpu but still nothing. I added ether4 directly to bridge-for-switch, too: /interface ethernet switch port set 3 default-vlan-id=100 vlan-mode=secure /interface ethernet switch vlan add independent-learning=yes ports=ether1-trunk,ether4-access,switch1-cpu switch=switch1 vlan-id=3999 to...

Re: IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

Interesting, thanks. Yes, I have ROS v6.43.4 on all devices, the setup is as follows: [hAP ac] /interface bridge add fast-forward=no name=bridge-for-switch protocol-mode=none /interface ethernet set [ find default-name=ether3 ] name=ether3-trunk speed=100Mbps comment="to RB951G(1)" set [ find defaul...

Re: IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

Thanks - actually, the connection to the hAP ac lite (at the bottom of the scheme) is wireless (wds) and it works perfectly, however the connection over ethernet doesn't work. I wonder if there is something preventing multicast traffic over hw offloading swhitches - I tried various settings (IGMP sn...

Re: IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

Yes, two ports on modem (untagged Internet/WAN, tagged IPTV VLANID 3999) go to two separated ports on RB951G.

PS: the figure above describes only the IPTV traffic.

IPTV VLAN traversing over three RBs [SOLVED]

I have two RB951G and one hAP ac and am trying to arrange the IPTV multicast traffic through them. STB works on tagged IPTV VLAN 3999. The RBs are connected in a serie like: iptv port on modem <==> [RB951G(1)] <==> [hAP ac] <==> [RB951G(2)] <==> [STB] I'm using the hw offloading on all three routers...

SSTP 443 port sharing

I have two RouterOS devices, #1 is gateway router with firewall and NAT, #2 is performing as a SSTP VPN server (among other things). On router #1 there is a dst-nat rule pointing any traffic from the internet on TCP port 443 to router #2, which works just fine. Now, I'd like to have additional servi...

Re: Suggested order for setting switch/vlans/bridges on rb951g-2hnd

Thanks, this usually works fine. However, I noticed that you loose connection even over MAC server if you, for instance, remove the bridge from initial configuration for this device. Is there any documentation which describes the necessary "inner topology" so that the CPU is reachable to the outside...

Suggested order for setting switch/vlans/bridges on rb951g-2hnd

Hi, what would be the "right" or the best order in which to set up the core inner topology for the RB951g-2hnd? 951 has no console port, so one should be very careful when setting the core things like interfaces, switch (master, slaves, VLANs), bridges, etc. in more complex setups. In my case, I hav...
