How large a hotspot area are you talking about? Is it feasible to walk around and find whoever is using a Macbook and give them a warning? Technically you could call it theft of services, depending on your local laws though this may or may not be something you wish to pursue. If you're using open au...

With only 4 or 5 clients I think you will see great results regardless of what setup you have. Once you get up to 20 or 30 active users, report back on whether it's still working as well as you are seeing now

So if everything is configured with the same ssid, roaming is automatic? If the APs are on different channels, I don't see how a client can seamlessly roam without having to change frequencies to check for a new AP...

WDS without the W

Hi all, I'm hoping to install some APs to cover a large complex with wireless. Users will be using laptops and so will be roaming from one AP to another quite often. However, I do not want to use WDS as there is already Cat5 running through the buildings and I can simply have each AP connected direc...

I'm now convinced this is some kind of bug with the MT EAP implementation. I left the board sitting there trying to associate, after a ton of "802.1x failed" messages, I had another "4-way handshake timeout". RADIUS logs showed again that a successful EAP-TLS challenge had taken place and the Access...

After doing some more research on the EAP protocol, the packet types are confusing. Here's what I think is happening: - MT associates to Cisco - Cisco sends EAP identity request to MT (Code 0x01), using EAPOL Type 0x0 (EAP Packet) Apr 5 01:01:54.755: dot11_auth_dot1x_send_id_req_to_client: Sending i...

WPA TKIP/AES dynamic keys with 802.1x EAP-TLS on Cisco/MT

Hello, I am trying without much success to get a routerOS CPE to authenticate to a Cisco 1310 AP using EAP-TLS. The Cisco AP has a radius server configured (FreeRADIUS), I have setup a CA on the FreeRADIUS box and it knows about the client / master keys and certs. I configured my MT CPE to use dynam...

The 3.0 beta is very unstable on routerboard 111/112 hardware, be careful and only enable the minimum number of required features. I've been using 3.0b6 in station-pseudobridge for over a week now on RB112 with no problems, but another install on RB133C hit 100% CPU for no apparent reason within a d...

Nobody knows why I get only 48mbps via ethernet port? Faulty routerboards? Check the CPU on the routerboard, since everything is mostly done in software I wouldn't be surprised if the CPU is maxing out. Although if this is the case, the RB 150 doesn't look like a very appealing product if it can't ...

Physically mounting routerboard hardware

Just curious as to what everyone uses to mount their routerboards. We have good results with PacWireless RooTenna and Roo2s. We purchased some pre-built systems from a reseller and the routerboard was mounted directly onto the back of the metal mounting panel on the RooTenna using hot glue. We recen...

Seems like there are definitely a few more bugs ...

Advice for "no beacons" if connecting to a Cisco AP, you need to increase the beacon rate on the Cisco radio config. Default is 100 and all my routerOS clients constantly dropped with this error, changing to 50 and it's rock solid.

Doesn't seem I could reproduce that on my beta6 setup (which is still going strong - ~10mbps @ 70% CPU in bridging mode). The only time the CPU hits 100% is immediately after logging in on winbox, it settles down after 10-15 seconds back to a normal value. I just got a bunch of RB133s in today, I'll...

It's almost impossible to use the device once the CPU problem starts, it takes many minutes to even login with telnet and trying to use Winbox is impossible. Is this bug confirmed by MT yet? Does the beta expire at all or have any other kind of built-in limits? I really need the station-pseudobridge mode for one of my clients which means deploying the beta in the field.
