Re: Two (several) domains / servers on one public IP

No other operating system supports reverse proxy for SMTP, POP3, IMAP and FTP, only HTTP and HTTPS is supported.

Re: DNS problems

What is the recommended cache size? If I set to 5000, DNS queries are brutally slow once the cache is fulll.... We use OPEN DNS for our dns queries.
What, 5000 kilobytes? That is only 5 megabytes.

Re: Two (several) domains / servers on one public IP

This field expects your public IP address, not your domain address. However, the link you provided only deal with web browsing, not mail and ftp services. What you are asking for is not possible with only one public IP address. You can of course use non standard ports for everything except SMTP, but...

Technical advice regarding MPLS/VPLS (L2 MTU)

If you want to skip a lot of the introductory stuff and go directly to the point, just skip to the section marked red. I realized that one Layer 3 switch does not really support VLAN, so I need another solution to create a virtual LAN. According to the manual, these limitations will be removed in fu...

Re: RouterOS License and v4 questions

Software ID changed when I moved a Compact Flash Disk to another system.
The previous Software ID reverted back in the old system. I wonder if the same thing will happen if I use a Compact Flash to S-ATA adapter?

Re: Your routers internal bandwidth

it might be the PCI bus
I installed a 400 MHz DDR SDRAM module, and the transmitting bandwidth increased to 1400 Mbps. I'm surprised that there was a different at all, because the maximum bus speed on that motherboard is 266 MHz.

Your routers internal bandwidth

Okey, what is your routers internal bandwidth? I'm interested in what various hardware can perform (especially RouterBOARD). I ran "Bandwith Test" to localhost "127.0.0.1" in one of my routers, and the transmitting bandwidth is around 1266 Mbps Average. It is an ordinary PC with ...

Re: ROS V4 upgrading and license issue

but when you upgrade a license the RB itself does _not_ need internet access, only the laptop running Winbox does. So you can, for example, put a 3G card into a laptop, make that the default gateway, connect directly to a router that is not connected to the internet and upgrade the license on it. A...

Re: winbox dosent work with pppoe in win vista and win7

Okey, but you did not gave much more information than before. We should not have to ask twenty questions to get people to tell us what's wrong with their routers. As normis said, your problem description is unclear at best. To get help with this issue, you need to provide information of your network...

i am pretty sure normis is well aware of the intention of the post.
Yes, of course he is. The real purpose of the message was to call attention to the thread owner that this is bad behaviour.

Re: Speed problems on EOIP tunnel

Encrypted tunnels takes a lot of CPU power. I have a similar configuration and it was set to "encryption-default". I don't know if encryption is default, or if someone else set it to encrypt traffic. In my case I don't need encryption, so I changed the profile to "default", which...

Re: RB750 vs RB450

RB750 comes with Level4
The product brochure says it comes with RouterOS v3.

If I order RB750 after the weekend, can I be sure to get them with RouterOS v4?

Re: VLAN between two mikrotiks

If you use ping tools in winbox, make sure that you ping from correct interface. If LAN interface is attached to a bridge, ping from the bridge.

Re: VLAN Configuration

The distance between the buildings are only 50 meters, and there is already fiber optic cables deployed in the basement. The problem is that there are limited numbers of them available for me to use. Maybe there is another solution to this issue? Instead of using EoIP tunnels, I saw that RouterOS su...

Re: VLAN Configuration

Thanks for your reply. You are right that I do not need to replace every switch in the building. However, I need at least two new VLAN aware switches (one in each building). I'm already running a wireless bridge between the buildings (dual Nstreme), but the increasing use of visual technology for in...

Re: VLAN Configuration

Other VLAN switches have the option to set a VLAN ID to "untagged" traffic coming into a port, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that on the MT. I have a similar issue, I need to transfer two LANs between two buildings. One solution would be to use two fiber pairs, or replace every...

Re: VLAN between two mikrotiks

I followed the example from the document, and it works for me (version 2.9.x & 3.x). Maybe your network interfaces do not support receiving/transmitting of full size Ethernet packets with VLAN header added (1500 bytes data + 4 bytes VLAN header + 14 bytes Ethernet header). In this situation MTU ...
