If there is misc client connecting to your AP (hotspot) and you have no control at client(s). Don't use encryption. it will not function 100% in mikroitik network.

So many clients does not have 100% compatibility to a wpa(2) etc encryption.

6.0 on CCR and X86 (only one tested) still have the vrf issue. ITs 100% CPU, and not even possible to do a /export or supout from the boxes. Is there any solution to the vrf issue, that have been in almost all 6.x versions. ITs impossible to use vrf on CCR, and that is a REALLY bad thing.

This is possible, and a nice feature. a 60Mhz channel at nv2, give me 80mb/s TCP instead of about 25mb/s on a 20 km link. (180 mb/s at udp)

I recommend using a setup to separate interfaces, make yo able to prioritize over your bakup links. an easy setup would be default. but have a 100 prio to the backup p2p ospf connection.

do you control all sites between your l2tp tunnels= and know about the setup? Why have eoip over l2tp.? Use l2tp as a layer 2 protocol. much more stable.

turn off logging to flash, and bad blocks are gone. This was really a problem earlier, in boards using CF cards. If you logged to CF, it would not last more than less than a year.

The most stable boards I have, is old 532.

I have newer had troble with age, on boards from 133 and up. really old old old boards with pcmia slots, the old "home computer casing with wlan cards etc" is gone some years ago.

Capitor is a problem on some board.

you cant bridge. Somehow your net need to have a gatway, to route between. The easiest is nat.

depends on your setup. A clean hotspot directly to a Ethernet should not. If you use vpls/mpls, eoip, vpn etc etc to get the cpe to the hotspot, its possible.

Its possible.

I think what you want is a bridge with 2 gateway IP.

A dhcp server at the interface (bridge) and the possibility to set permanent ip to some devices.

Its possible to do with vlan, but why stuggle with vlan's? :P

And... routeros. is capable of almost whatever you want. :-)

you use a failover based on netwatch. Why not base it on routes. Make all devices knoe about all the other, and put weight to routes. Use ospf, bgp or something to make it dynamic, and its should be redundant by it self. Without a netwatch etc.

For some reason. I don't know. it did not installed the wireless package. (+ a lot of other) (was fully operating in 5.22)

Downgrade to 5.23, and it all came back. (I keep it there. don't upgrade to 5.24, and try to install just wireless package).

Well, consider to encrypt, loose SOME performance, and have the funny ppl out of your net.


I use static - aes-ccm, and I cant say that performance is affected. In 2003, maybe. in 2013, with new hardware etc - NO.
and to isolate l2 in mikrotik, fulfil your net with horizon at bridge interfaces.

then you need bridge - wds. ( or eoipe etc). The point is to get a l2 connection between 2 devices. Its not possible to do mac telnet after a gateway (then you must use eoip-vpls-l2tp or something like that)

But what route do you actually need if you setup BGP between nas'es, and give out from one big pool to the clients? then the pppoe, who become the clients default gateway, will fix all the routing (if you see the nas'es as backbone with bgp)

Try to do a bgp to route subnets to the pppoe terminators. Then it don't matter, what IP is to where. its routed dynamic. all pppoe terminators could have the same big subnet.

have the wirless in wds mode, to go stight trough with winbox (or mac telenet).

Or you can first mac telenet to firstdevice. then to second.

Its also possible to do eoip, l2tp, mpls/vpls etc.

Also remember to mac telenet to correct mac address. Try the one provided in neighbors

you will need, ppp profile. ppp user and a network (IP's) to Connect to both sides.

If you want to use the l2tp as a bridge, have the defualt bridge option in ppp profiles.


when all is up, you can have a l2 net over this, but also, possible to Connect the eoip, to the address of the l2tp tunnel.

I have had trobble using DHCP in 5.x. Try to Upgrade to newest 5.X software (5.22?) or downgrade to 4.17 if the newest 5.x dont not help.

If still problems, try to bound the mac address to some IP. Then it should not change (unless Your Device Inside change mac addess.)

Have had this problms on RB1200 Boards. Fix was to change the port Connected. Try to change Ethernet port at Your NAS (pppoe-server) to se if it helps.

I dont know the router etc, but i know a "hack" to make this work.

First, Connect the two mikrotik with L2tp.
Then (if needed, l2tp support l2) Connect the eoip to l2tp IP. Then the raffic will be udp.

what kind of radius do you use? NPS/IAS, freeradius, etc. ITs strightly like just to follow documentation. You have to little info, to make an ansver. interference could com frpm other stuff than wlan. :D But alone way up in some hills, its more likly to have a lot of channels to em self, and much less noice.

I have not seen this problem. We started to try to not use Silicon, and have quited totaly. I think i have about 150 SXT, and have had 0 error (not been DOA) This is in hard Norwegian weather, With a lot of rain and snow, and temp Down to -30C

you should not have 2 default routes. Route the net's you have between the correct Interface. (make sure it has less metric than Your default route)

its common to have a really big drop in troughput when going from ptp to ptmp.

PS! 5825 is not ideal freq for Your sxt. Check the antenna pattern, that is really "Sharp" around 55xx (and will have about 10db better signal here, than 5700)

setup a pptp server (or l2tp. maybe to preffer). (set the mtu to 1280)

Connect to the server from a host, and wolla. you can ping Devices inside.
