Hello .
I would like to ask if there is a way to use 1 Mikrotik Router as 2 Mikrotik .
i did the following first Mikrotik connect to Internet and have L2tp Client Tunnels to PPPoE Server and the L2tp Tunnel with Ether2 are in Bridge.
there is a Lan Kabel from first Mikrotik Ether 2 to second Mikrotik Ether 1 and Ether 1 on Second is a PPPoE Client Interface and build a Connection and Surf Internet were is comming over L2tp tunnel from first Mikrotik.
how can i do the same with only 1 Mikrotik if Possible?
i tried the 2011 Mikrotik were it have 2 Switch inside and Patched 2 Switches with Lan Kabel from Ether 5 to 6 and on 6 is the PPPoE Client , but PPPoE Connect for 0.5 second and disconnect and Keep on that for ever..
any one can help with this ??
thank you
I think you can use a single machine like this (not sure, you need to test this):
-
create a bridge
-
create a PPP profile for your L2TP and assign it to use the bridge
-
create a L2TP client interface using the profile above
The l2tp interface should appear as a dynamic member of the bridge after connecting. -
create a PPPoE interface and use that bridge as the interface for your PPPoE client (PPPoE client does not accept tunnels as interfaces, so it is either an ethernet, vlan or bridge)
-
treat the PPPoE interface as your WAN like in the second router
Hello thank you for Reply ,
i already tryed this without success .
best reagrds
What does without success mean?
Main question: Does the PPPoE client in this scenario connect or not?
If it is a mipsbe (like the 2011) you could try a metarouter as the second router ![]()
hello .
with 2 Routers it works perfectly, but with only 1 router it could not connect the PPPoE on Bridge were the L2tP as dynamic there.
what you mean with metaRouter how to use this..
In mipsbe and single core ppc routers, you can run up to 8 virtual instance of routeros on the same machine (see MetaRouter in winbox). It can run a ROS instance or even a special crafted OpenWRT image.
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Metarouter
It communicates to the main instance via virtual ports, like connecting a second router yo the first one via cable.
So if you use such a thing, you could push your PPPoE access to that virtual router, connect it and get the PPPoE interface out via a second virtual interface back to the main instance.
Hi,
Thank you for telling me about meta router I get it finally to work as I need
.
It work now as second virtual mikrotik , but i can’t get it to work under openwrt,
Have open wrt a webinterface or it’s only a Linux router configured over terminal?
Thank you
There is a virtualization forum section here which could give you better info.
AFAIK it is console only at start, but I think you can add a WebIF.
But OpenWRT metarouter is not supported by MT or the OpenWRT community. Also, I have seen stability issues with it.
So if a second ROS instance does what it needs to do in your case, I would stick with it and not bother further.
BTW, positive rating of posts that help is always welcome ![]()
