just a quick question here. Does Mikrotik have plan supporting 100G or 40G port for CCR1072 router in the future?
I would hope for 40G ports, at least one. Reason being is that:
- Switches with 40Gb ports are much cheaper (especially 2nd hand)
- Optics are MUCH cheaper for 40Gb especially on longer links
I have no problem if there are SFP28 ports for 25/50/100 (for future capacity) - but I think SFP+ and 40Gb should still be catered for. Especially as most of the ISP’s that use Mikrotik traffic is 99% less than 40Gbps. I know 40Gbps is on the decline - but the market Mikrotik is aiming at would probably be the SFP+ and 40Gbps users.
Personally I would be happy with the following:
- Faster CPU Mhz (e.g > 2 Ghz)
- Hardware based LACP (I personally would probably use 2 x SFP+ in LACP or 1 x 40Gbs)
Models:
6 x SFP+, 2 x 40GBps, 1 x ethernet for management
6 x SFP+, 2 x 40Gbps, 2 x 100Gbps
All ports should be backwards compatible e.g SFP+ to SFP, 100GBs to 25/50Gbs, and 40GBps into 4 x 10Gbps breakout cables.
Yeah, 40G is better than nothing. anyone knows that if Mikrotik is going to launch the router support 40G or 100G port in the future?
Yes, they do have such plans.

Thank you for heads up, I hope Mikrotik will launch the QSFP+ port soon
