10G SFP+ Switch Coupling

Hello All,

here are 2 feature questions about CRS226:

  • Does anybody know if two CRS226 can be coupled over 10G Fiber on SFP+?
  • And if yes: Will at least 10GBIT of the the switch backbone bandwidht be transferable to the second CRS226?

My Scenario:

2 Rooms with a few PC each and the option of doing 1 fiber Connection instead of 10 or more Copper-Cables …
It would be a Killer to have full bandwith in both rooms.
To save the expensive 10G card for the Server i would use LACP with 4 Ports, because my server is not capeable of delivering more than 400MB

Hello,

Does anybody know if two CRS226 can be coupled over 10G Fiber on SFP+?

Yes for sure this can be done.

  • And if yes: Will at least 10GBIT of the the switch backbone bandwidht be transferable to the second CRS226?

Yes for sure but also the other ports a counting to the entire switch throughput!
This means in real life, if there are 24 PCs are connected to the ether copper ports
and on top the SFP+ ports are also in usage, all ports must share the whole switch
power through all ports in this game, for sure.

Thanx for your reply. Sure the Bandwidht has to be shared with the copper ports.

Due to the fact that the Qalcomm Switch chip seems to be brand new i havent been able to find any specs.

But i already ordered 2 SFP+ Fiber Adapters to do some testing in Switch Coupling.

Hopefully cheap 10GB SFP+ Nics will be available soon. I found an ASUS Broadcom Based one port card for 120 Euro that should be available beginning next month.

What makes the CRS226 so interresting to me:

A set of 1 CRS / 1 NIC / LC-Fiber Cable / 2 * SPF+ Adapter will be be less than 500 Euro and be able to supply a small office with 10G Server Power.

I see a huge market in this because a lot of small companys deal with large amount of digital data on their lan and would get a high gain in throughput for a reasonable amont of money.

Hello All,

today i received the Mikrotik SFP+ Adapter for 10GB / 300 m and the fitting cable.

Without having to programm anything i directly habe been able to couple both switches.

I will now have to wait for 10GB NICs to do some Bandwith Testing.
