Of course not a guarantee that your setup works …

Why bother with DAC? Transceivers are not much these days.

I use Intel X520 SR1 (comes with Intel transceiver)connected to CRS317-1G-16S (MW-SX+MM-US transceiver) using an actual fiber patch cable as it was intended.

Ultimately I need to understand if a ‘cisco sfp-10g-sr’ for which the transmitter wavelength spec is described as 850nm is usable.

No it will not be usable. 850nm is only used for multimode fibre. You need a single mode 1310nm LR (long range e.g 10/20Km) SFP. Mikrotik’s can take generic SFP’s or Mikrotik branded SFP’s and some branded SFP’s. For a Cisco nexus you would want original if you want “support” or get a coded one from fs.com if TAC support is not important.
