10km link throughput low

I have a 10km link which with a 24dbi antenna and amp on the client side and 15db omni and amp at the base. With out the amps the signal level is -94db with the amps i get as high as -69db but when collected the ping is eratic it varies from 3ms to 5000ms randomly and it is majorly always arond the hundreds. I tried changing ack.

I would like to know what i could do to improve the link quality. I was thinking of applying compression and nstreme but the link is an M2P link and there are other CPE’s can i still do that?

Thank you

you need another antenna instead the omni and no amp’s

I am assuming you are using 2.4GHz.
Gain more height. 2.4 in this configuration should have no problems at 10Kms.

Nstreme does not work with non mikrotik devices.

Is there a height difference between the AP and client?
Omni antennas are bad for changes in elevation.

Dump the amps and get better LOS and/or higher power radios.

I’ve been doing this stuff for about ten years now, way back in the day when all we could get were 80mW Hermes cards, amps were a must… these days with Atheros cards and decent output power, amps are not necessary (and in fact usually cause problems).

#1 thing you can do to improve your situation is to get rid of the amps and do other things to improve your signal. Suggestions are:

  • Use shorter LMR cables with less loss (if you have any lmr at all)
  • check and recheck your antenna aim.
  • Use Radio Mobile to ensure you have good LOS, and determine the best antenna height.
  • Use higher power radios, like the Senao 8602-S (“Plus-S”)
