133c Prblem

hi everyone;
I am facing aproblem in RB133c and i reset it by the jumbers on the board. Now i can’t access it and i don’t knew its MAC address neither its serial numbr or the IP address plz i am looking for a help, any one can help me

You don’t need to know the mac or ip…use winbox and connect the laptop/pc direct on a LAN port.

i did try to use the winbox but noway i need the ip address or the mac but i do not knew any one

can i use the winbox without the MAC and IP address, if yes how?

press the “…” box man and will automaticaly scan for systems

i did that alot but it doesn’t find anything it still blank. i do not knew what to do any advise?

in that case use the serial console to connect:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/RouterBOARD_Troubleshooting

"could not connect to 192.168.1.250(port 80)- no response " that is the message appears when i try to connect to the rb133c bu the old IP i assigned before resetting. I read articles about this problem i remember it says after resetting no ip is assigned to the board, is it true? if so what should i do? and i read the link but i could n’t make it out

yes, after reset - all config is cleared.

read this page:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/First_time_startup

part about console.

after it is cleared is there any common configuration for rb133c, or i have to use the null modem connection? for examlpe is the ip address empty or is it assigned to a special one? (if yes what is is it?) and can i knew the mac address of the board using a program? (if yes can you name them for me with links)?

From the last 40 rb133’s I purchased directly form MT about 70% has a backup config. After the reset command the rb resets itself to an almost empty ros.
But, is has 192.168.88.5 (or sometimes 6) assigned. So you can login to that IP by winbox.

[Off course you can always use the “NeigborViewer” program and log in with a mac-telnet session.
(admin, no password)]

it is still not working. what kind of null modem cables do i have to use in order to connect? I think it is partial handshaking, but i have to be sure, since there are several types (looked in wiki):
1-partial handshaking
2-no hardware handshaking.
3-virtual null modem
4-loop back handshaking

cable pinout: http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/2.9/system/serial.php

What kind on nul-modem cable? Well, never knew there are different types. I just bought a ¨nul-modem¨ cable in the shop.
Connected it to the serial port of you PC, other end to the serial of the board.
Start a terminal session on the PC (make sure the speed, datarate etc are set, look at the Wiki) and open the connection to the board. Power the board up and you´ll see the commands and messages on the terminal window.

Then you have ethernet connect that same board over a hub or swithc or straight with a crossover cable to that same PD.
Start the netstart program from MT.

Two options now:
If your baord still boots from its own hd (nand) boot is and then look for the device in the netinstall program. (Should be recognized automatically)
If not you have to boot from the netboot server, a little program embedded in the netstart. Fill in a IP (same subnet as your PC) that should be assinged to your board and enable the server.
Now, powercycle the board, hit a key before it is trying to boot and in the setup menu go for the ¨e¨ option, boot over ethernet.
If you now boot the unit it will transfer the boot file formt the netbootserver and start up with that.

If the unit is now running you can with the netinstall program upload the packages you need and when its done reboot the board, with these now new packages.
(Set the boot back to ´boot from nand¨)

You can also first upgrade the firmware of the board. This can be done by the ´Transfer´ menu in the terminal session itself.
Go for the upgrade firmware option in the setup of the board (hit a key before it boots) and when the board says its waiting go to the ´Transfer´ menu in hyperterminal and transfer the file (Xmodem).

After the upload the router will come back with the message the file has been transferred and you can reboot the board again.

This all when it works.
In my case I cannot upload any package or file to my board anymore. Altough I can boot over the ethernet cable I cannot transfer files over it. The board just don´t accepts these files/packages..

i connected to the board using null-modem on the serial port and it works. I enter “o” to boot the device the “e” inorder to boot from the ethernet, at last “x” to start booting. But now the prebem is i can’t boot, i got a message “” kernel loading failed"" . what should i do?? what if i format the nand? i am using Hyper Terminal

OK,

Did you also connect your router with a cross over utp cable, or straight through a hub, to the same Pc?
And did you install MT’s Router Installer program (http://svconline.com/mag/avinstall_understanding_controlling_rf/ )?

In that program you’ll find a netboot server option. You have to tell this server a IP to give to the routerboard connected, in the same network as the PC you use.
Now you can boot your board with the ‘e’ option in console.
If you now start the setup, the setup first gets an IP assigned by this netboot server and then the server sends the setup file and the routerboard will start up from it.

If the router is finished starting up it will come back in the console with the sofware key string and then something like “waiting for installation server…”

Now the router is ready to do a netinstall.
Select some packages you want to install in the ‘Packages’ section of the Installer program and in the “Routers/Drives” list select the mac address of your router.
Hit the “Install” button and your router will be uploaded over the ethernet with the selected packages. (If everything goes well!)

If not, double check everything and if then still not, write a mail to MT.

rgds.

Rudy I can’t use the link to download the MT installer programm u talked about.

yeeeeees it works, i did n’t use any program but Hyper Terminal it is the easiest way, after connecting the null modem and the utp i reset the configuration of the board and assigning a new IP address issues it works, it pings and i can login through the web interface!!!
thanks allllllll
