After thorough testing I have changed over my entire wireless network from 2.8.18 “wireless-legacy” to 2.8.22 wireless (non legacy) and can vouch that it works without any problems. My network comprises links from 3Km to 25Km 802.11a, 802.11b & 802.11g and have not lost performance on my 5.8Ghz links (which was a problem prior to 2.8.22), in most cases especially with 5213 chips performance has increased as well as signal strenth. I am very pleased that I can finally run wireless as apposed to wireless-legacy because of all of the enhancements.
