Can anyone raise their hands if they are successfully running 2.9.51 and BGP? I’m interested in those that are taking in more than 50-100k routes and using iBGP with another router as well. I’m still at 2.9.26 because of all the problems - just limiting incoming routes to a few thousand. Is 2.9.51 and BGP good to go with 200,000+ routes ?
Hi,
I’ve it running quite stable with 2.9.46. Full feed.
Quite means that there are some issues left I cant really catch.
When the upstream Cisco of a uplink provider gets another
session cleared my session gets resetted, too.
Sometimes I’ve the situation that my router does not
announce my AS. A resend clears this situation.
Difficult to nail down this problem.
I’ve 3 boxes running. 2 to the same Uplink with 2.9.46
and one to another with 3.7 (a few days now).
3.7 runs on a RB1000. Does a good job until now.
The route filtering display in 3.7 is a needed feature.
So may be you want to start with 3.7.
Do not use too small hardware. RB1000 fits.
And if you need a reboot it’s instantly running.
I’ve had it running on Via 800MHz. This is too
slow to sort routing table.

Ive got 2 supermicro 3ghz machines with quad intel nics … i think hardware is okay. I would use 3.7 in an instant but I believe there are issues with connection tracking turned off. I need the performance and cant afford to have it on for these routers.
are you using md5 passwords on the session that gets reset ?
as annoucement - unless you send a deannouce thats probably your upstream thats losing it right ? Would be worth packet sniffing tcp/179 for a day to watch that. or even log the bgp syslog for a while to see.
I’ve seen issues without conntracking on 2.9.xx too. So I always enable it.
You might remember http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/cant-live-without-conntrac/18711/1
I’ve only 100MBit uplink so this can be done by RB1000. This little box
performs great
).
No I’ve no md5 passwords on bgp-sessions.
Yes I’ve to debug this further. But this problem appears only about every 2 months so
I’ve a long time sniffing for it. As I see the RB1000 running stable for a while on 3.7
I’ll go for 3.7 on the other boxes too and see if it fixes my problem. There has be
done some work on BGP between 2.9.46 and 3.7 so I’ve hope
.
