2.9 Beta?

When will we see it? Will it support downgrading back to 2.8 release?

We have not seen any 2.8 updates in a while either. I guess that means its working good.

Matt

It should be on the web today or tomorrow. There are actually allot more little things, but we have to list them.

What’s new in v2.9beta1:

*) reduced disk space requirement by 50%;
*) improved ip firewall with many more matchers, chains in NAT and mangle
and more actions;
*) improved bridge firewall with more matchers, tables and chains;
*) increased speed of PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP connection creation, routerboard
can now handle 3000 active PPPoE connections;
*) router boots much faster even with lots of queues;
*) added more statistics to queues;
*) added support for multiple DHCP clients;
*) all PPP interface active MTU & MRUs are reported;
*) PPPoE server can have limit on maximum served clients;
*) added support for memory testing;
*) added support for full cpu loading (to test overheating);
*) multiple serial consoles;
*) possibility to increase visible screen lines in the console;
*) winbox now uses only one TCP port to get plug-ins and send data;
*) routes now support recursive nexthop lookup;
*) console help format reworked;
*) added Nstreme support for Atheros wireless;
*) added dual link Nstreme for Atheros wireless;
*) more 802.11g support for Atheros wireless;
*) hardware encryption support for Atheros;
*) AES encryption support for wireless;

Caveats:

*) logging does not work;
*) policy routing does not work;
*) some console scripts could crash;
*) IPsec does not work;
*) prefix list configuration is incompatible with previous versions;

HI Mikrotik,
When do you think that you put on your new version IPSEC ? And can be possible added possibility (as TI chipset) to have in the same time AP that can work with 802.11a/b/g devices?

Regards
Fabio

quick note
today i played couple of minutes with 2.9 b1 till i found that ethernet interfaces appeared unknown and i cannot assign ip address to them. Wasted some flash writes to test this version.
Wait few more releases before playing with 2.9 beta

hello john,

let me inform you we face boot problem on 2.9beta1 : sis748, duron1300mhz, latest bios, everything disabled in bios, 540MB WD and 1200MB Maxtor drives ; also intel440bx chipset with celeron333, everything disabled in bios : 2.9beta1 just hangs on “processing console information…” and does nothing more. On those two machines, 2.8.11 runs without problems long-term. Also, this 2.9beta1 runs OK in Virtual Machine environment on notebook compaq nc6000, centrino 1.6ghz, 512mb (64mb allocated for VM). We tried to mess up with settings in bios, nope, no result. I don’t understand it :slight_smile:

*) more 802.11g support for Atheros wireless;

what does this include? {is this Turbo for 11g ? That would be excellent }

*) hardware encryption support for Atheros;

what is the performance hit compared to no-encryption setting?

thnx, mp3turbo.

hello all,

John, do you have any expectation to see G turbo mode implemented?

thnx, mp3turbo.
