Hello, I’m sure this is simple but I have yet to make it work and it is the first time I have tried so I am sure a few pointers and I’ll be all set.
What I have:
2 RB112’s each with a SR2 card with 2.9.26. One AP is wired from ether1 to switch and has public IP. The wlan1 with the SR2 has an internal IP 192.168.192.1.
The second RB112 has nothing attached to ether1 and the wlan1 with SR2 has IP 192.168.192.2.
AP1 is set to ap-bridge wireless mode freq 2452 SSID BrevardWireless
AP2 is set to wds-slave wireless mode same freq and same SSID.
Each has an additional WDS interface added to the interface list with arp enabled with the master interface wlan1 on each and the mac address of the opposite side. Both show connected to each other and it appears traffic is passing between them although I’m not sure exactly what.
AP1 has DHCP server running on it and is ip masq (NAT) from the private wlan1 to the public ether1 (many to one NAT).
I can see both with the wireless card in the laptop but on AP2 when I connect I do not get an IP address and I do not get net when I hard code a private IP in the 192.168.192.x range.
I know somehting isn’t setup correctly but I’m not sure what and I have read all the config samples I have been able to find. If I had them both in front of me it would only be a metter of time but they are already deployed and I have to drive there to get to the one I can’t reach so I would like to know how this is supposed to be setup before I go back out there.
I really only need what I have explained above to work but I would like one additional thing to work if at all possible. How can I get to AP2 from out on the internet if it is only on the private range behind AP1 wlan interface? I don’t think I can the way I have it setup - can someone confirm. I’m guessing I’d have to have an additional router and map external to internal IPs to get to the other AP and that isn’t going to happen as I want to use the MT hotspot functionality with the APs out there. I guess I could add a CM9 card and bridge the two wlan interfaces and solve my problem but I’d like to know how to do it with WDS too.
Thanks for your time.
