Hi boys and girls, just had an extremely pleasant evening and night playing around in -22C temps with my outdoor AP.
Hear is (was) the issue…
Have a few XR2’s up north in very low noise 2.4 environment running backhaul for 900mhz’s and there CPE’s..
Starting last night, I was getting reports of funky internet service. VPN’s cutting off etc and sometimes server not found pages.. Hoping that it was just a bug, I made the user logins more automatic so end user would not get the login page as much etc.. Temps where around the -12C - 15C area. Well today, the internet was real funky (unstable) and at around 3PM as temps started to drop off even further, complete infra failure… Snooped around my area and found it was AP #2 that seemed to have an issue..
After rebooting the box, users seemed to be back up momentarly but with almost no bandwidth at all. Did some checking around in that AP from the truck and not long after had more and more of a difficult time to connect to the AP wirelessly. Finally, I had to brave the -22C temps at that point and get the ol cross-over and laptop outside and connect to the darn thing.. Once in, the SR9 seemed fine with all its clients connected etc, but the XR2 was not getting its ip properly from AP1 as usual and not passing bandwidth… So by now im figuring I have a damn bad XR2, so I swap it out with another one and I seem to have alittle bit more power from it, but now, since I had to reboot the damn thing again, my SR9 blows.. (happens damn to often GRRRRR) So the CPEs are not coming back anytime soon as I have run out of SR9’s cause THEY KEEP BLOWING!!. Anyways,.. the XR2 is still very funky, I cant login wirelessly from the truck at all, just like with the other one. Conclusion so far is that the other XR2 was fine, so whats causing the problem. Dont think its the antenna,. I finally give up and return thawing out in the truck.. I get home, log into my network via AP#1 and im kind of able to log into AP#2.. Im thinking maybe its getting abit warmer in there card cause I now have the cover back on etc.. but im still not able to get any bandwidth thru it just like the one I swapped out. No throuput AT ALL..!!
I keep playing and reviewing settings etc.. I say to myself just for fun, lets switch her on 2.4mhz B instead of running only G.. The damn thing kicks in and starts working like a charm.. Passing sweet bandwidth from AP1 to AP2 and blah blah blah, to bad my damn SR9 blew cause now they are still all down but for a damn other reason that wasnt there before…
So whats the story with the XR2’s not passing bandwidth in OFDM below like -15C??? Mike?? any input? Signal and noise levels where always perfectly normal as usual with both XR2’s.. ANyone else have issue’s passing bandwidth in OFDM in chilly conditions?
BTW guess theres nothing to do when u have an SR9 with neither a disabed flag or running flag next to it is there? Any tricks??
..
