2116 r2

Hello
I have just installed a 2116, and in routerboard appears “r2”
wich are the differencies between r1 and r2 ?

thank you

MikroTik never publicly documents these hardware revision differences. Most of the time, if you open up “r1” and “r2” and then compare the 'boards side-by-side, it usually becomes apparent what changed. Often it is as simple as a single component, like a flash chip part change.

Usually the hardware revision doesn’t get a +1 unless the change requires a software update to support that change.

I think they added a USB port on r2. Not sure if anything else was changed.

Well, I cannot answer directly since I put hands remotely 2000km far from the device.
I just noticed in the system/routerboard section.

It works though

My 2004 r3s got a slight Mhz bump to 2000 Mhz and lost a usb port vs r1.
Not sure if it also applies to the 2116

Did a bit of Googling and Redditing, and it sounds like the change is likely related to USB…but is the opposite of what happened to the 2004 (16G-2S+ version).

2004-16G was originally released with USB. Apparently whatever components were being used to provide the USB interface became supply-constrained. So MikroTik eliminated the USB port on the 2004-16G in rev2+. It was pitched as a temporary measure, but as far as I know, the port has never made a return to that model.

The 2116 was originally released without USB. And it sounds like MikroTik has added it to the 2116 in rev2. (You can tell it’s the newer version that has the USB port since in the pictures others have provided, the one with the USB port has the new MT logo, and the one without has the old logo.)

I recently got a few CCR2004-16G-2S+ r3 models that contain the USB port.
