22,5 km link NStream Duo

I know this is far than the best you can find in this forum, but … it’s a kind of success, considering everyting. Here are the specs.:

Point A:
ASUS MB running Intel 1,6 GHz, 512 Mb RAM, FlashDisk
CM9 and MT’s R52 wireless cards on 5GHz dual polarity dish 32dbi

Point B:
ASUS MB running Intel 2 Ghz, 512 Mb RAM, FlashDisk
CM9 and MT’s R52 wireless cards on 5GHz dual polarity dish 32dbi

Distance is 22,5 km, the link is running NStream Duo at 5 Ghz, 20 MHz channels. Rx signal: - 64 dBi (VPol), Tx signal: - 56 dBi (HPol), Rx/Tx rate: 48 / 54 Mbps

The results were messured while the link was already operational and troughoutput we got was Rx/Tx: 21 / 32 Mbps UDP and 21 / 29 Mbps TCP. This has been measured with bdw test running both directions - most realistic results, as far as I can say.

The line of sight is almost clear, if we exclude a large Telecom’s tower standing just about in the middle, between the points. Tx and Rx signal strengths might look good, but these are 32dbi parabolic dishes (300 EUR’s each !!!), with just 4 degrees focus. There is a high level of noise present at point A, but I am still not too happy with VPol results. Will try to tune it some more later …

Anyhow, I was hopping but sincerely not expecting better results than these. Surelly 40 Mhz channels will give much better results, but than again, I fear it will cause problems to some guys having link(s) at the same site … we’ll see. So far, I’m trying to be a good neighbour.

OK. That’s it. Your coments please.

If you work with 5GHz and 40 Mhz channels you leave a lot of channels unused. It’s no problem!

Gonna try it and see what happens - will let you know. I had unusualy bad expiriance with Turbo at 2,4 …

You will need to go to 40 MHz to get any more than you are getting now. You have reached the 20 MHz limit.

Also, you paid too much for your antenna. The HDDA5W-32-DP can be had, brand new, for under $300.

Quite agree with you on the matter of 40 Mhz channels. I did a test and got constant 54 Mbps full duplex, with some peeks to higher. Again measured both directions at the same time.
As for the antennas, I agree with you once again. They are overcharging them. Ones we are speaking of here are of PacificWireless, and to be precise they cost 295 EUR’s each with the importer.

Anyhow, that’s about the best I could get on this link. There are two other ones with more or less the same setup. One is 23 km and the other one is about 12 km. On the longer one I have pretty much the same as with the one in the original post. The second, shorter one is still unfinished, but the initial tests so far are … well, rather dissapointing … (Keep the faith!).

If I discover anything interesting will let everyone know. Until so … best to all!

Look into having them shipped directly from the US, it will probably be cheaper, especially if you want a few of them.
Also, talk to http://www.grante.hu/, they are in the EU and make DP antennas are reasonable prices.

Has anyone tried N-Streme dual links using RB600’s? Do they perform better than PC’s or can’t you see a notable difference?

I did a lab test, which looked awesome but I can’t really do a realworld test at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback
