4 km Link

For antennas I use dishes 29dbi
I have a pair of Engenius Model name: EMP8602 Plus-s
How can I optimize this?
Where should I make the changes in winbox in order to improve ccq % rate?
How do I know if they are propperly aligned?
One is configured as AP bridge and the other one as station, is there a better way to configure this if its a point to point link?

Thank you

You are overdriving your cards. They are most likely blown.

The need to be replaced. 8602’s are garbage. Get yourself a couple R52’s or CM9’s for this shot - they will work well.

Leave power on default!!

Thank you for your prompt reply, when I change the cards:

How do I use the Align button, do I use it from the subscriber?

If you need to bridge use WDS. Otherwise, no you’re fine. Once you have the cards changed out I would run Nstream and compression to get more throughput.

on the side set to “station wds” click the “scan” button in the wireless interface properties and watch the rssi.

Thank you again for your reply, since I am a little new to mikrotik and minipci.. could you be more specific on how to do this?

Ignacio

in winbox, double click on the wireless interface. In the window that pops up, there should be a button that says “scan” along the right-hand side.

Hello, thank you for taking the time and letting me know how to do this. As soon as I do this, I will post my results

at 4km (2.5 mi), you should be able to see your target. If you cannot the signal is low because you are shooting through an obstruction. Unless there is some other circumstance like the antenna you are adjusting is atop a 20ft pole to see over the neighbors roof.

Now that you have a signal, I would watch the screen you are on in the screenshot, it updates quick enough, then rotate the dishes as little as possible each way left and right, till you get about -56. You may need to do this at both ends at least 2 times to get a perfect alignment.

Normally I would use a 23dbi panel for this distance, cheaper and easier to aim in 5 minutes.

Also take the advice of getting r52 or cm9, or at least turn down your tx power by automatic and put in the 29dbi antenna in the wireless screen.

Your signal should be around -63 with only 17db of gain.

To getting a stronger signal will improve ccq.

Noise reduction: change channels or polarity, -103 is good but there may be bursts of noise that affect your signal reaching.

Diffraction. Raise your dishes up as much as possible. Sometimes even 1 ft can clean up your fresnel to acceptable levels.
